Interact with admissions more frequently.
Meet with students at the halfway point to discuss their sucess's/challenges.
Meet with other instructors and see what "weapons" they have in their retention arsenal.
Spend more time talking with my students.
Work more closely with each student's problems.
Give frequent updates and feedback as to student performance.
1). Weekly, structured, retention meetings with staff, and faculty from all departments involved.
2). Weekly faculty survey of "at risk" students in their classrooms.
3). Increased career focused activities on campus by alumni, and related employers.
1. during classroom presentations remind them who they can talk to to get help.
2. Remind students of our open door policy and that we are here to help them.
3. Be more visable.
1. Weekly student progress updates
2. Schedule outside speakers to attend classes
3. Find time to speak to each students individually
Making sure that instructors including myself are available to be of complete support, encourage group interactions to help develop self efficacy as well as completing awards on time to students to help them see their successes as they happen
By taking this course I realize we have a lot of good practices in place, but there can be improvements.
1. Find out who is responsible for the suggestion box and whether it is utilized.
2. Check with instructors to see if students struggling are being provided the assistance needed.
3. Try to be present when advising students on attendance and grades to make sure they are offered the aid we can provide.
Here are the three steps I intend to take:
1) Complete this course RT101
2) Enroll in the course which follows it with CEE
3) Meet with each student in my class about their participation and communication in the class and how many absences and late arrival/early departures they have to date.
praise when doing good, encourage with needed and make time for one on ones
We will utilize clubs, student outreach, and extended success courses for our students
ALWAYS GIVE SUPPORT TO THE STUDENT. SUPPORT COMES IN MANY FORMS LIKE DID YOU LOOK AT IT THIS WAY, AND GOOD JOB, DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WILL THIS LEAD YOU TO THE NEXT LEVEL OR WHAT IS THE END RESULT.
I will engage with students outside of my office as a way to build their connection to our school community, I will identify flags (such as missing attendance) of persistence early on and follow up with students and I will use the intervention model when communicating with students about challenges.
Talk with students more, look into starting clubs and find out if we have funds for awards.
put in to motion the practice of holding seminars to address situations that lead to student stress
put together a community service group for students to be a part of
fully inform the students of what resources are available to them from the school to help them be successful
Supply more after class time for students that need that extra help.
Pay closer attention to the students that seem to struggle.
Develope a better rapport with my students. I will listen more intently and observe more to identify problems. When I identify a problem I will walk them to the appropriate person myself.
1. The students are on a holiday break right now. Before they start classes we are inviting them in for a pizza party. We are also inviting students that are just joining the school. This should reinvigorate the returning students and add more excitment for the new students.
2. Implement a mentoring program for some of our returning students to help out the new incoming students.
3. Hold group tutoring sessions outside of the regular classroom.
In our student success class, we will have the students write a letter to themselves pledging to attend classes and finish their programs. In their last class before leaving for externship, we will return the letters to re-enforce how important it is to keep promises to yourself and that they accomplished what they said they would. Secondly, I will spend more time in the hallways during break to see and greet students that I don't have in my classes for that module. Lastly, I will develop activities throughout the student's time in school to keep them motivated at every stage instead of just at the beginning or end of their program.
organize car pool volunteer list, provide gifts for excellent and professional work, Provide additional tutoring
1. Get to know my students better.
2. Monitor attendance and seek those students who miss class.
3. Be more aware of students indicating that they have issues that need addressing to help them stay in school.
