As in instructor I can do the following:
1. I can show my students that I value them as people and value their opinion.
1. I can be diligent of my students' behavior and watch for signs.
3. I can show a positive attitude in to allow my students to feel welcome and willing to ask for the help they need.

An inspiring list!
Students need to mentor with peers and instructors to succeed!

Encourage and participate in student tutoring

Encourage mentoring amongst peers in the same course

Get students interested in academic clubs and culture of school

1) Come up an evaluation process for students to do so that they know that their opinions are valued.
2) Conduct staff meeting which includes all the staff and faculty to get inputs of everybody on how to better help students on an individual level.
3) Keep in touch with our graduates who and get their inputs on how to better improve communications with our current and future students.

1. Contact students who are absent to make sure that they know we are concerned.
2. Identify students with significant attendance issues and talk to them about what is going on before it is too late and the opportunity slips away.
3. Work with the students who are clearly struggling with getting good grades in an attempt to understand the obstacles they are facing and establish a plan for how to remove them.

1. Giving the students more and better information about the services that available to them at school. Make sure the students know the key people on the staff that can help them with those services

2. Suggest we start a mentoring program at the school where more advanced students will be paired with new students to help them through their first block of classes.

3. Bring in people from the community that can offer the students options on how they can get the services they require to perform better at school. ie: trusted child care, transportation, food.

- Make visits to the classrooms to introduce or discuss student services and the different resources we can offer to help students succeed.

- Implement and organize a tutoring program to offer extra help to students; assisting the coordination of study groups to improve academic performance, study skills, and communication skills.

- Focus on connecting with students and supporting them with the use of campus events such as awards ceremonies, outreach or community involvement, and even events that interest the student body.

I can say that in the next 30 days, I will work very hard to identify the core concerns of the students, not only provide resources, but teach them how to research for them as well, and focus on retention, graduation, and workforce preparation.

Improve orientation
Explain to new students who to go to
Have a list of resources for counseling

We are calling our absentee students more and emailing them to see how they are doing - these are externs out in the field.

We now have an incentive/certificate program for externs who turn in their paperwork every week on time.

I personally call or write students and ask them to share their success in their externship site.

The "Dear Teacher" technique previously outlined.
Personally meeting with students whose grades are not at a "B" or above level at the midterm level.
Emphasizing the practical importance of all assignments and materials presented to increase student interest.

I plan to,
1. Engage students one on one to find out what I can assist them with to improve their practical skills.
2. Call an informal meeting to address what the students feel can be improved upon in my theory class.
3. Enlist the help of my colleagues to improve our basic program to ensure we are up to date on our teaching.

1. Propose that we bring back the Student Council
2. Try to organize a Car Pool list at the beginning of the next semester (3 weeks away)
3. Propose that we create a "Dean's List" or some form of higher achievement award for students.

1. Ensure that students identified as requiring additional supports are receiving those supports by following up with both student and instructor.

2. Ensure that students are aware of the open door Student Services policy and re-issue an invitation to stop by.

3. Follow up with any students I have seen in my office who were having difficulties and seeking support to ensure that they feel they are cared about.

pay attention to each student
warn them and the support staff in case of low grades
keep asking students questions that will reflect the level of learning

I plan on learning more about my school's and students careers in the school. I am a general education teacher and I want to be able to learn to curtail my teaching to the students better. I am trying to use more one-on-one conferencing in the classroom. This always helps students to feel cared about. Finally, I plan to attend the next school function to show my commitment to the school and the students.

I agree spending time with the students and making them understand that they are more to us than just another student in important to them and I feel like it helps the students to continue even when they are feeling like they want to give up.

-Spend time getting to know my student's.
-Communicate more effectively with academics
-Watch closer for early signs of attrition.

Making myself more available. Even though my students know my office hours, I will make it a point of voicing that I'm available. Acknowledging student achievement. Its very easy to point out flaws but I'm going to make sure I let students know they are doing a great job. Getting more student input on what types of things they would like to see or any ideas they may have.
