1) By observing the students more closely so I am more aware of issues with students that can cause them want leave school.Also listining closer to what their issues are.
2) I can also encourage the students more with positive reinforcement.
3)Also I can make an extra efforts to show that they are not alone and we as staff do care.

First you need to understand your students and let them know they can talk to you.

second is watching for signs, test scores, attitude, apperience.

Third- you have to care about your students. Dont just say that there is nothing I can do with out even trying.

Retension is best adressed by early detection. The instructor job apart from just teaching, is to monitor each student attendance and class interaction to detected early problems.

1. Listen better to students concerns.
2. Fix curriculm type o's.
3. More interesting lectures.

1. Offer more tutoring to students at risk.
2. Talk with other instructor with regards to how they are improving retention.
3. Offer other study materials or sources so they may improve thier grades.

All my students are given my email for communication however they do not use it.
Perhaps setting up a web based program would work.

1. Follow up on suggested course about orientation, how to engage students into their education.

2. Set up rewards for honors, attendance, professionalism etc.

3. Set up menitoring systems, assigning a returning student to new student to give as a support system.

1. Financial is huge for us..we will have part-time job fairs.

2. We will be hosting many events in which students can be involved with which builds a sense of belonging.

3. Make myself present on campus and in the classroom, and have open conversation with the students.

The school has
1. Support services to help deal with student issues
2. We also have a student sucess coordinator
3. As instructors we help guide our students to the correct people that can help them

1 Shorten the SOP presentation so students do not miss the first day of class
2 Get more interactive with the students during discussions
3 Get contact numbers from all students in class so I can call when they do not show up

1. The school has made the first day of class count for a point value towards lab grade (The majority of the students that fail have missed the first day of class)

1. Pro-active intervention - identify & coach the student that has a poor test score, attendance / tardy or financial issues.
2. Follow-up motivation - keep in contact with the student to keep their spirit and goals up.
3. Multiple strategies - The coaching needs to come from the Instructor(s), Management, Student Services counselors and peers.

I feel that I will approach the students with small challenges to try to keep thier interest. I am also going to create some knew games so that I can hopefully gain thier involement. But most of all I am going to try to be more attentive to the students and if I see any signs of attrition, I will make every effort to try an reach those students before it becomes to late. I have created a small check list derived from this module and I read it every morning to remind me to keep my eyes and ears open and look for warning signs. Learning to crawl before you can walk is important. Letting the students know you feel for thier situation may help to relieve the stress and strain. Retaining them in school is our number one priority. Reminding them of the benefits of education and the rewards they can reap is also a great approach.

1. Meet with all students on academic probation
2. Brainstorm ways to reinvigorate the teacher advising program

1.Make sure my students are signed up for the on-line tutoring courses. This lets them revisit the material on their own time if they are confused.

2. Make sure students are better aware of the amount of absentism, so they don't accidently miss too much time from class.

3. Be available for tutoring, especially for students who are struggling with tests.

1. Participate in 2 student organized competitions.
2. Meet with my STAR Team to discuss any student issues they may have.
3. Monitor and address students on MIA list to see if there is reason for the absences that we can help with.

Set a goal to improve retention that is achievable. Monitor and investagate attendance issues. Get student history and performance to use as a tool to help.

1. I would like to have our technical team leaders of their courses come up with a quick description of their courses. The reasoning behind this is to have instructors on the last day of the course to describe what their future courses contain.
2. To communicate to students about some of the valuable web sites mentioned in this training.
3. Hand out our business cards with information about our online tutoring and some of the local services that would be useful to them.
