we are using an student goals questionair that has a section for the student to expand on some of there concerns and is reviseted several times during their stay. The information is added to their personal file and the counslers have access to them and they give us sugestions about how to handle some of the issues the students have if they are within the instructor scope. Most often the issues are addressed at their or adin. level and this improves the student experience and improves retention by makeing their transition to higher education eaiser and also improves their ability to accept their new living and social conditions.
If you have a positve culture on campus among students, it help retention.
1. Meet with the president of school to see if we can insitute an Gradmax system for the needs of our students.
2.On a personal basis, being involved with student activites.
3. Meet with addmissions to understand what information they are telling the students, before they begin day one of classes.
I will be sure to keep a closer watch on the way the students are progressing as far as the class is concerned and watching for signs of possible problems...try to interact with students that are showing signs of problems either academic or personal.....and be sure to reward students with words of encouragement when tasks are accomplished the way they are suppose to be to help energize the students and keep them motivated in the course.
1. Discuss the resources the school makes available to students more extensively during the "Keys to Success" presentation at the beginning of each course.
2. Be more pro-active in resolving issues that could lead to academic or attendance failure.
3. Double my efforts when observing students' reactions and behavior in class and lab to identify those issues that could lead to failure.
1. Rework the orientation at the school to be more student-centered and provide the students with all of the information that they need in one easy-to-use format.
2. Post a discussion board on the student portal to act as a Share-a-Ride resource.
3. Make better connections with community resources so that at-risk students can be directed to free or inexpensive professionl services that can help with personal problems.
Get more involved with the student body, by making a point to speak with as many students as possible. General discussion about school and life in general as the topics. Let each and every student understand that there is someone who will listen, if they need to talk.
1)Get together with Deans to work on retention issues and discuss students that may need help.
2)work with instructors to see how they think they may be able to help retention.
3)Speak with students to see if they can offer suggestions on how they feel the school can better help them.
1)Communicate to all students that we are concerned about their success; if they don't succeed, we don't succeed.
2)Look for and act on signs of stress in students.
3)Help students to think "big picture" by focusing on long term goals rather than stressing over short term challenges.
1) ensure students are signed up for our on-line tutoring program. Many forget the instructions at orientation and are embarresed to ask for assistance
2) As our curriculum is changing I have to be sure our students are aware of the specific lab assignments that are required as it is constantly changing
3) Be available and approchable as possible to assist students struggling with the material or may need a referral to someone else who can help them with a problem, school or personel related
1. Meeting with the Managers in the Education Department to fine tune our thoughts on how we can increase our retention by what we have learned through this course

3. Spread the knowledge from my learning to the rest of our campus so we call have a useful toolbox and more ideas on what we can achieve together.
I will monitor attendance and grades,as an indicator, that a student may have, some type of issue, that could affect retention.
I will do my best ensure that I am presenting the course material in a way that keeeps my students interested.
I will also stress how important that thier education is to thier success in thier chosen field.
1 Continue working with our completion retetion committee on attenadance issues.
2 Review my presentations to make sure they are interesting and valuable for our students.
3 Do a mini evalauation mid course to assure student satisfaction.

3)I plan on pulling stundents from a list and just asking how they are doing and if they need anything as far as help or tutoring.
Last year my retention numbers were the lowestin my department. This year I vowed to improve my retention of students. In the past what I'd tell my students is if they had personal problems they should take time off from school and fix their problems then come back to school. This was wrong because many students left and never came back to school. In the future I'm going to tell the students to stay in school and we will be able to work through their problems while they are in school.
1. Propose a department focused website to my boss.
2. Conduct a formal training with my staff on the subject of retention
3. Identify and contact at least one local "fun" place that would allow us to have a student event for our new students who start in May (to help them feel a part of something bigger than themselves)
4. Write down the contact information of at least 5 houses for rent in the local area to help new students focus their search for housing options that are an alternative to traditional apartment life.
It is up to the entire school to help with the overall retention of the students.
1-Better inform my class of the skills they will master dureing the course.2-Challenge my students and provide them with the knoledge and tools to be succesful.3-Be non judgemental when listening to thier problems.
