No matter what we do there will always be some problems with retention. Whether it is financial problems, problems at home or the student figure out this is not the career path that he or she would like to take. There are not a lot of people that the students feel comfortable with to tell their problems. What if there was a place to go for just the student, which is overseen by a consoler. How about phone # for the student to call, or a chat room on line that they can vent their problems in, and stay anonymous if they want. I’m not sure that this can happen are will it happen with in 30 days.

I shall utilize newly available resources to familiarize myself with incoming students to be aware of potential "problems" (i.e attendance, tardies, early dismissals, poor testing, etc.)before class begins.
I shall work to increase one-on-one private conversations during breaks to become aware of indivdual student concerns that affect their experience here.
I shall (continue) to offer my assistance to students that complete my course to stop by and inform me of their progress as well as bring me any concerns or issues I might help them resolve.

1. Continue to encourage, promote, and develop interdepartment coordination and focus. As taught in the lesson, all persons and departments of an institution must be working together to acheive higher purpose.

2. Work on being more proactive regarding students, such as probing a bit further to understand where they are and how they are really doing.

3. Use even more positive reinforcement techniques than prior.

As an instructor, the first step I will take is to greet the students on the first day with a positive and enthusiastic approach to the class. This will continue through the course. Then on a daily basis, I will show them how the information they are receiving will help them in their pusuit of a career. Lastly, I will make it a point to observe each individuals behavior so that I may recognize any signs that could indicate a student is not happy and could be a potential withdrawal. From this point, it will be my responsibility to direct these individuals to the proper person/department for assistance.

I offer tutoring, counsel students on attendance and give suggestions on what departments students should see if they are having difficulty with housing, transportation etc.

1.) Make observations throughout the 1st couple days of class and make note of individuals who appear to be distracted or lacking interest; research the student records for any direction that may allow me some insight to any pre-existing problems.

2.) Consult with students that have issues with tests, time management, or ability to follow the rules and keep the flow of written communications of such issues moving throughout the support services staff.

3.) Consult with students in a more timely manner to ensure an environment of caring and support.

1. Keep track of student hours daily with my roll book.
2. Look for signs of boredom lost interest and ask how I can help
3. Let students know I am here for them and if there is any way I can help

It is not steps that I will attempt, it is the steps that I use every day. I work with the students, assisting in the learning experience. The students that struggle I give some extra assistance, notice I did not say help. If I can show a studet the correct way, then have him/her do the job it will allow that student to gain confidence in their ability. If a student is struggling with a task. I will work with them until they feel confident in being able to complete it safely.

1. I will be meeting with my team to discuss students that may be having challenges
2. I will follow up on all advising forms just to see if the student is focused after they have talked with their instructor
3. I will open conversations up with students as I see them just to gauge how thei work load is and how they are doing that day

I like to greet every student that enters my classroom, listen to what the students are saying and promote success.

1. Have instructors participate in training on retention.
2. Discuss with the other faculty the idea of the possiblity of setting up a student mentor program.

3. Talk with lead instructors about more directly relating course objectives to career objectives.

I will make up a cheat sheet on who to talk to for what things, to give them the idea that we are here to help them and they can see how devoted we are. I will continue to offer tutuoring besides school supplied tutoring so it more up close and personal. I will also try to better identify at risk students so i can get everyone through my calss with the idea that we are here to help with not only class related things but also other problems to which i can give ideas.

1.Insure that the students have methods of contact with the staff and the members of their teammates. Cell phone numbers, email addresses.

2. Ask and check the students future goals are applied for such as courses or programs that they want within the institutions.

3. Insure that all students are aware of the late and absent policy and how time and course can be made up. I will show them the steps that must be taken for same day session changes or success thursdays.

In order to improve retention, one of the steps to take is to ensure proper communication with students and management. In other words communication must go in different direction in refference to any circumstance with students for such determines student success.
Step two may include surveying the class by mid course in order to inquire some students mind set. Finally, recognizing students achievement by publicly acknoleging when one or more achieve certain objectives also reminding them why they are in school.

I picked up some tips on how to improve my time with the students in the classroom. I think the first thing I need to work on is being more motivating in the class about the subject matter. Second thing would be to listen and take note of what the studets are saying or asking for. Third thing to work on would be to learn something about the students and use some of that information to liven up the class.

I will Attempt to rember all my students names.
Great each student at the begining of each course.
Lisen more carefuly to the concerns of each student as they explain why they are late or miss a day, and attempt to help them in some way.

Spend a little more time looking into the background of students with excessive tardies or attendance issues to see if there is a pattern

If a student who has high grades now drops to a lower grade i will take the time to find out why and if possible do what I can to help

Try to make their experience here as fun as possible and show why they came here is still the reason thay did.

Help the student with problems..
Be more interest to what the student are saying.
Always tell the student before dropping out come talk to me.

1) The students are the reason you are there. If there were no students, you would not be there. With that in mind, you will peform your duties as an instructor who shows passion for the curriculum you are teaching. That passion the students will recognize and generate an interest that motivates them to stick with it.

2) The students need to reminded continuously the benifits of completing the school and how it will improve their lives and their abilty to succeed in their chosen career paths.

3) The students are people just like you, treat them like you want to be treated. Respect, courteous, and a genuine interest in their progress.

Three specific steps I will take within the next 30 days to improve retention at UTI are as follows:1)I will create an atmosphere and personal demeaner such that students will be comfortable coming to me with question, concerns or problems.2)I will establish a structure within the classroom that is clear and concise such that students can relax in a predictable and safe environment for learning.3)I will motivate students by finding ways to compliment even small successes based on individual performance, thereby encouraging students to continue to strive for excellence.
