I tell all classes the first day what I expect in the way they perform, that I expect them to arrive at class on time, and what the class/school rules are. As for me, I show no favorites,I do what I say I am going to do and I am fair to all students.

THE THREE THINGS I MAKE CLEAR ATTENDANCE , CLASS WORK , TESTS
THATS WHAT I MAKE CLEAR THE FIRST DAY , AND THEY NOW KNOW THE EXPECTATIONS ARE IN THE COURSE

Be in class on the first day, this day sets the stage and expectations for the class.
pay attention and understand the requirements of the classroom and lab. I raise the bar to challenge my students.
be prepared for the class.

Martha--

Excellent points. I especially like your point about always asking questions. That is so important...in class and on the job.

Susan

The three expectations I have of students are:
1)To be on time, it will prepare them for employment as well. 2)Be prepared, shows your responsible 3)always ask questions. There is never a wrong question. I like for students to expect, that I am here to help and guide them. To know that there is always an open door policy. They can expect to be as important the last day as the first day.
