Having an intelligent heart can be very difficult for some people to admit, even to themselves. I know I try to go out of my way to ask students how they are doing and really listen to the answers. I think for some instructors showing you care about a student and thier struggles makes the instructor feel like they are too involved in a students personal life. I feel that students are more committed to class and to learning if they feel that I am interested in them as a person and not just another number.

The culture of our school is greatly varied. Some of the faculty definitely have strong Intelligent Hearts, and some do not. The students have found out which faculty members have an Intelligent Heart and strongly drawn to them for advice and guidance. Those negative faculty members are avoided by students, which in a way, tends to contain their negativity. As with any large, diverse group of people, negativity cannot be completely avoided. However, the general flow of energy tends to be positive.

The President sets the tone. Our President's "Opne Door" Policy makes students feel cred about and though most issues are settld a lower level, student know that option is open to them.

At our school we feel confident that we are providing students with valuable, marketable skills. Combine that with a student-centric focus that is tempered with a respect for rules and policies.
Because of the fact we rarely have exceptions to policy I can feel comfortable adhering to policy. This may not sound like a retention issue but Gen Y students respect an organization that sticks by the rules and looses faith when there exceptions for some but not for them. They want a school with integrity.

Absolutely! I think our school cares for their students. They keep classes small enough so that the instructor can get to know every student and on a personal level. Also, it is our policy to follow up with students who do not show up to class. I think an intelligent heart is genuinely caring, honesty, trustworthy and leading by example.

"As we do our best to remind our students that they are the reason why we are here and we are proud of their accomplishments" this is what one of our deans wrote in an e-mail to the staff. Hence, I do believe that our school's culture is that of "intelligent hearts."

I have to say, it's not only our school's culture, I cannot see how an instructor can perform his/her daily duties and not be that of an "intelligent heart."

We are lucky to be in an industry that we touch people's lives and hopefully positively influence their learning abilities. Abilities that last a life time.

Our school's culture is very much student centered. As an entire campus, we make it a point to really know our students. We know them by name. We know about their families. We know about their strengths and weaknesses.

The "Intelligent Hearts" include the fellow students as well as faculty and staff. Our students often state that they feel like the campus is their home. They feel safe and excited to be here. It is amazing to hear them encourage each other, help each other, and direct them to help when needed.

I believe the "Intelligent Heart" consists of the soft skills that we grew up learning as a child. Joining and belonging to the social group is critical in the development of our successes. The graduate who is able to get along with coworkers will be more successful in the workforce than the graduate who is book smart.

I love the term intelligent heart. I beleive the intelligent heart as apposed to just having a high IQ is often the very basis for being a very successful and competent employee

I think our school os made up of Intelligent Hearts. We try to connect with the students not only in the classroom but by providing student appreciation activities, student services in the areas of child care, bus passes, etc and by electing "Students of the Month" and so forth. We try to make the students feel like they are more then just a tuition payment or a grade in our grade books.

An employee with "intelligent heart" is one that not only cares about the students, but knows that he/she must also adjust and evolve to improve the quality of life for those students. Life is ever changing and we must be prepared to assist our students as those changes happen.

I would say that the majority of people in my organization have intelligent hearts. I hear instructors all the time encouraging students to do well. We have tutoring available which is volunteer and instructors more than willing to participate. I perceive Intelligent Heart as being kind and friendly to everyone we encounter at the school.

I am really happy to see such a dynamic being discussed among educators. I urge my students to follow the lead of greats like Wunt, Jung, etc. In other words, I encourage others to be true to themselves and hospitable to all others.

You description of the intelligent heart is a good one.

Empathy is unfortunately lacking.

We strive to develop and foster the concept of the intelligent heart although that terminology is new to me. My perception of the intelligent heart is using intellect and an empathetic, compassionate emotional approach in seeking to reach students and to serve their needs.

School culture is an important factor of motivation for faculty members. Having standards, policies to define a norm is important for service or produce quality and recognition. Creating a business structure while empowering employees will develop a synergy where positive energy, feelings are thriving and where better performances can be recorded.

My school's culture right now is undergoing a great deal of change from a personnel standpoint. We had to get the right people on the bus in the right seats and I believe that we have finally made this happen, but time will tell.

I would say that now, the bus is filled with Intelligent Hearts. The staff and faculty have embraced the change that is happening right now and the student population has responded to the friendlier atmosphere. Attendance is up, grades are up, and negativity is down. Communication has improved dramatically as well. Employees have become team players instead of “individual stars”!

My perception of an intelligent heart is someone that loves the job they do. they always try and promote nothing but positive aspects of thier jobs and the company itself.

At my school the mamagement(all levels) promote the positive and promote teamwork.

Unfortunately there are members of our orginization that don't share these values. They constantly complain about any and everything. Thank God they are small in numbers, but the negativity they give off is often contagious.

I've tried talking to them, but they are convinced that thier way of thinking is the only way. I sometime get tired of hearing all the needless complaints.

The majority working here are upbeat, helpful, and considerate of the students and the staff.
