At my school/campus all departments are caring and concerned and are there to assist the students in anyway that we can to ensure that they have what they need to be successful. Students are aware that they can approach any staff member if they need assistance or have a concern. We strive to give not only a good education but also great customer service as graduates give the best referrals and references for new prospects
We are all very involved with the student and are trying to do a better job communicating between departments. We are in know way there yet. It is so important for the WHOLE team to work together on behalf of the student.
I believe our school has an Intelligent Heart in all areas. We are very helpful with our students in accommadating their needs.
Lazara,
This in an interesting way to describe the process before a student starts. Thanks for sharing it.

We have a great team in our admissions and financial aid offices. We like to think that admissions creates this perfect bubble of enthusiasm and excitement and that bubble is taken care of in the financial aid office being careful not to pop it and following through each department. We all have the same goal and it's to have well educated happy students.
We truly care for our students from admissions to the classroom and career services then graduation. We go above and beyond to make sure that falling behind student gets extra attention to be successful.
The staff and faculty at SBC have the knowledge and skills to execute their jobs and the heart to understand how to reach and encourage students. SBC’s mission and vision are student-orientated and have positive expectations of students’ performance and success. All departments work together to ensure the success of students in their respective programs. I strive to mentor students and encourage them to achieve their goals. I listen to their concerns and assist students, when I can. I direct students to the appropriate resources, when I cannot help. In addition, I strive to model a professional demeanor at all times.
I would describe my schools culture as one of communication. We as an organization try to express that we are a team. This means that the students have the benefit of all departments working for and with them. When the financial aid departments need help with a student they reach out to the instructors to help. We share common goals of having each student be successful. Even the administrative team and admissions team try to have a vested interest in the students by checking in with them periodically to see how they are progressing. Is there anything they can improve upon? To me this emphasizes the fact that our school is working with "Intelligent hearts" by trying to incorporate our mission to help students succeed every day.
Suzie,
This sounds like what all career schools should try to be. Thanks for sharing this.

I think I definitely work for a school that is made up of mostly Intelligent Hearts. We have some amazing people that work for this school. From the Admin offices to the Instructors most of us are here for the students best interest. Our departments have made a rule to not just send a student to another department for help, we take the time to walk them to the person they need to see and make sure they get to the right person. Our instructors go out of their way to make sure the students are getting the best education possible. If they need help they find tutors, if they need help financially they get them to student services, if they need a job they get them to their employment advisors. Over all I think most employees are here to make a difference.

Joel,
I like the "skills lab" concept. Do you also open the lab by appointment for students who cannot get there between 10 and 6?
Jeffrey Schillinger
My schools culture is to involve all departments in the success of the student. From Admissions to Financial aid the purpose is to help the student.
We also have a skills lab where students can go and practice techniques that they need to work on. It is open everyday from 10-6, so all students regardless of class time can go in.
Maria,
Graduation hugs may be the best reward for an educator.

My school culture is ti help the student to succed in their career, to stay in school and finishe graduate and get a job that can change their life. I like to be part of that dream.I get very happy when my student walk the isle of the graduation day and hug me and thanks me for all the help.
At my school, all departments are part of the students success. We all work as a team and have the same goal in mind.
Miriam,
This is great. It is not always common to find a complete team working together when sometimes departmental goals seem to conflict.

Benny,
This is a pretty good description of what a group of intelligent hearts can do together. Thanks for sharing this.

In my institution's version of an "intelligent heart," we work together through the Admissions department, Financial Aid department, our department, Student Affairs, the Registrar's office, Academic Dean's Dept and all other pertinent departments to ensure that all programs and student in our school are given the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated as individuals and members of the school, their community and the armed forces.
My perception of an "Intelligent Heart" is the idea of having a positive, genuine, and encouraging influence on the betterment of our students. I would say my school's culture is made up of intelligent hearts.
From what I can see, the other instructors and teachers at my school are just as invested in the student's education and betterment as I am. Several times, we've discussed with each other how we can help in encouraging and motivating our students, especially when we have those not doing so well. Together, we give and take ideas to help solve problems. In the end, we not only want our collective student retention to improve, but it's obvious we want our students, as learners and as people, to improve as well.
