We have a similar culture. The instructors, program directors, dean, executive director all walk around, know the students, and the students know us. Students are treated with respect and dignity, and there is always a helpful hand available. Tutoring services, 1-1 remediation with instructors, and a vast array of online resources are accessible to the students.
Yes our campus is made up of Intelligent Hearts
All depts, including the President has an open door policy - students are welcomed in all depts. Once a students has a question/ issue, that dept/individual owns it and will makes sure the issue/ questions are resolved.
We also incorporated a skills lab for practice and student tutoring.
What students love and so do instructors is to have student volunteers to help with demostrations.
Tabitha,

The culture at the school I work for is great. We have a solid team of people who all work toward the same goal. The success of our students is the most important thing on the staff members minds. The educators at the school I work for are constantly monitoring the students so they can better serve them. It is not always help with course content. Situations in the students lives often impair the students ability to learn effectively. Our staff try to reach out to every student to help them work through any problems holding them back. The ability to help students with professional skills and personal skills is integral to their success. Our faculties ability to connect with students on a personal basis is a prime example of an intelligent heart.
Eboni,
There is no true definition of the term "intelligent heart," though it is obvious when one sees a teacher or staffer who has one. I like to think of the intelligent heart as the ability to be empathetic and inspiring at the same time.
Jeffrey Schillinger
The intellgent heart is a subject that I would need more clarity on.
I think that we have a wide variety in my campus. We range from the jaded employee that has been burned by too many "Starfish" to those that realize the positive impact that an education can have on our students. They see the value in instructing, caring, communicating, and supporting our students wholeheartedly. They are full invested in their job and their students' success.
To me, an intelligent heart, is someone who used their knowledge (whether it be book smarts or street smarts/experience) to positively influence someone else. It is having both a heart and the smarts - and using them to help someone/thing else.
That is great, Beth. What are some of the overt ways your team demonstrates intelligent hearts?
Jeffrey Schillinger
Our school is made up of intelligent hearts. From the front office, through admissions and financial aid, the environment in our school is all about improving our students' lives.
My school's culture is definitely made of intelligent hearts. All departments are on board with our mission. We follow the TEACH methods every day - teamwork, employability, accountability, communication and helping our students achieve their goals - so that our students can succeed.
Allison,
Are there specific things that your leadership could do to increase the positive to negative ratio?
Jeffrey Schillinger
Our schools culture has mix of positive and negative attitudes. This could be the result of the inconsistency in the school management, which creates uncertainty and skepticism with the overall staff. In our department I do feel many have an intelligent heart and hopefully we can set a positive example to help our students rise and succeed.
An intelligent heart as I see it is: someone who cares truly for their students continued success.
I would state that an intelligent heart would be one that would describe as the ability to teach, mentor, and set a good example for the students. This is the culture that the school has stated that they would like everyone who is employed here to follow. The students appreciate it very much.
In this organization we are encouraged to help one another in all departments and to work as a team. Also we have a positive and encourging leader. This is a good example for the students and it enables them to have a better learning experience.
We are one of many educational departments on our campus and our class size is small. Therefore, we are able to respond to our students needs, get to know each one of them and watch them meet their goals and set new ones. This is a new experience for me, a challenging one, but very rewarding.
We are a small program that is in the back of our building. We get to individually know all our students and interact w/ them one on one every day. It is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
The culture of the school is always to encourage teaching with an “intelligent heartâ€. Here at Sanford Brown Institute, the instructor‘s goal is to make sure that students leave the institution with not only the knowledge of their career but a love and respect for their profession. Our credo is to: teach using person experience, enquire into any outside activities that might be hindering the learning process and monitor the goals and aspirations that students might set for themselves.
