Realistic Deadlines

Should students have to make an outline of their projects and turn them in prior to deadline?

Setting the Rules

It's very important to set your management style the first day of class. A properly prepared syllabus should detail the course expectations as well as the expectations of the students from you and you from them.

Stress Coping

I have used many of the course concepts, coping skills, in my life which has made a tremendous difference in my relatively stress free life now.

"Stressed Out"

The examples of stress and the identification and management of stress has proved to be such a positive movement in my life. I no longer "sweat the small stuff". Stress has been eliminated from my life's events.

Streamlining Grading Process

I am currently practicing many of the mentioned streamlined grading process which eliminates spending to much time in the process. I like the scantron grading method the best and it allows time for other reviews and assessments.

Time Management

The importance of managing your time and prioritizing events will be a great stress reducer. It has for me. You can control your own time by adhering to a flexible but prioritized time schedule both in and out of the class room and out. I am a great advocate of efficient list or checklists. It really keeps me on tract and relatively stress free.

YOUR Time

Find time for yourself to do what you want to do, where you want to do it. Walks on the beach work best for me.

Your time should be YOUR time

When taking the opportunity to de-stress, use the time for your own stress relieving needs. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed, go to the library, go for a walk on the beach (if you're in Florida), make it YOUR time!

Patience ias a virtue.....

Using patience in performance of certain tasks, even if they are high priority, can reduce stress by completing the task correctly the first time.

Sleep as a stress reliever

Lack of sleep may not necessarily contribute to stress but in can hinder in stress recovery

Complaining

It really stresses me out and makes me tense when my students complain a lot about a difficult lecture. How do I deal with this?

Class Morale

What other things can an instructor do to boost morale during the first two classes

When a Student Isn't Attending

how soon should you report them?

Blaming "Others" Students

You may find it difficult to sort out the difference between a fraudulent excuse and a legitimate one. How many must an instructor take before he/she reports and begin to penalize.

Handling Late or Missed Assignments

Is there a need to attach punishment? Can you give more work as a type of punishment?

Classroom management

I think that the course was great. There were so many important strategies effective techniques to utilize that will enhance the instructor's teaching skills. Classroom management is crucial to having students to gain the knowledge and understanding they need to be successful in their studies.

A HEALTHY "ME" BREAK IN BETWEEN LECTURES AND SESSIONS

How do we alleviate the stress or tension in the classroom, if we ourselves are stressed out? There are situations when students just pushed our buttons to drive us to the point of expressing our own frustrations and stress by our body language. When I feel that I am so stressed out, I put out my little mirror from my bag, put this infront of my computer, and tell myself (smile and don't worry about small stuff, because THIS TOO WILL PASS :-) I give students a little "me" break or me time.

Students' Challenges Outside the Classroom - Do we really care?

This course reenforced my vision to instill with or in my students' minds that WE CARE about their personal challenges outside the classroom. Understanding our own challenges to cope with our struggles with our personal life, academic life, financial life, will strenghthen our belief that students are not only students but also HUMAN beings as well. Oftentimes, when I conduct my class the first hour, I wonder, that my students encounter on their way to school, what are the experiences they encounter at home prior to reaching the school? DO WE REALLY CARE?

Streamlining schedule to include one-on-one outcome assessment

I normally include a schedule to speak with my students one-on-one to update them of their progress. Some students at first are anxious about that the one-on-one meeting is all about. After careful planning, I found that speaking with students using this strategy helps alleviate the tension or stress of just speaking about "grades" but also on being fully connected with students on a human level stressing our or my desire for their improvements.

New Technology

My previous teaching experience was at a public high school. I was using a textbook that had no supplemental materials such as lesson plans, computerized test banks, power point presentations, etc. I had to develop all those materials on my own.I now teach @ a career college that all the materials like the examples listed before are provided. This does not mean that I don't have to prepare my lessons but it eliminates the stress of developing the the examples listed above.
