Barney, it's good to hear that there is follow through based on the surveys. How often are corrective action plans indicated?
Sharron, your method of getting student feedback is quite creative. It would seem that you should get valuable information. I also agree that showing student that what they say makes a difference would enrich the process and shouldn't be too difficult to do. You say that students are assured of anonymity. How is that possible if you are sitting with them asking questions?
Carroll, when should students be asked about their expectations? Is that part of the admissions process? Integrated into the classroom or academic advising? Both? Who is responsible for keeping expectations and outcomes in alignment?
Discussion Comment
Sharon, are the academic advising forms in a paper format or computer based? If paper, are the responses quick enough to solve problems before they lead to a drop out?
Discussion Comment
james, what do you mean by "web based retention"?
Discussion Comment
Jessica, is this system a third party product or something specifically developed by your school? Is it widely used by your colleagues?
Discussion Comment
John, is this just standard classroom practice or really an intervention strategy?
Discussion Comment
Sharon, are there reports submitted that list the calls made and their outcome? Are people held accountable for this practice?
Discussion Comment
james, could you share some examples of effective practices at your school?
Discussion Comment
Eric, how do you use Facebook to get connected with your students? Do they accept you, or someone at the school, as a friend? What's the policy for faculty having students as friends? Do some of your faculty have separate accounts for their personal postings?
