It is important to keep the student informed of their progress to eliminate any surprises. Most student are interested in how well they are performing in the course. Keeping the students infomed also helps to identify areas where improvements are needed.

Student donT feel secure when they do not have an Idea where they stand in a class. Student need grades to be given to them to feel they are on the right track. If they are having trouble with a course they need to know what options they have to feel secure.

It is important to keep stduents informed of their status int he course at all times to :

- avoid stduent's unnecessary anxiety on how they are doing in class
- improve student performance
- provide encouragement
- redirect students if needed
- provide students options or ways to improve better
- provide recognition of student's hard work

Its important to inform students of their grades to help them realize they need to step it up or if they need tutoring they get it before the end and the grade is failing.

to know exactly what they are doing in the course and try to improve any weak or missing parts

Students should know their grade ASAP to recognize the adjustments to their focus may be needed. Those that are doing well may use it as a method of self-fulfillment and continue to do well. If that process fails, more than likely, there has been some mental diversion. An instructor who recognizes this can communicate with than individual perhaps developing an alternative route to get them back on course. Those that don’t do so well will have validation that adjustments need to be made. A discussion with that individual is in order to develop a strategy for improvement.

I agree informing students asap not only keeps the student informed of their progress, but you can also assist those students who are having difficulties early to try to tutor or assist the student with a better understanding of the material.

I totally agree with imforming students as soon as possible. They can get the help they need before they get too far behind.

Keeping students informed of their status in the course is essential. When the students are informed they are more motivated and focused. Each student's grades are available online for viewing at any time. However, I also keep in contact with each student after assignments to review strengths and weaknesses, I offer tutoring and remind students of the skills they will need to succeed in their future careers.

Students need to gauge themselves throughout the course. Their study habits, time invested and participation need to be validated. This can be done by giving a progress report each week. My students look at this as an opportunity to stay on course or step up their efforts. The weekly progress report also gives me the oportunity to see how the class is doing overal week by week and will allow me to adjust the tempo based on these results.

It's extremely important to grade and post grades in a timely manner. If we expect students to be accountable for their work, then we need to give them the tools to do so just as we do in the classroom. When they have ongoing access to their status on assignments and current grades, they can be held accountable for participating in their own learning.

I think it is very important classes change every 5 weeks were I work.Either at the end of the 2nd week or the begining of the week, I let students know were they stand with there attendance and grade. I week before the final exam I let them know were they are with their final grade so far and what grade they will need to get an A in the class.

So that the student knows how he/she is progressing in the course. I believe this is no different than working with employees. The student like an employee should not have to wait until the end of course/year to receive an evaluation. There should never be any surprises for the student or employee.

I also feel it is important for the student to know their class status in the event that he/she needs a tutor/mentoring to succeed.

Hi Sherrie:

By consistently communicating with our students, we create a sense of comraderie, that may help a student feel more comfortable coming to the instructor for help.

Hi Anita:

And by communicating with the student on a regular basis, it may influence them in a positive sense whereby they may be more inclined to approach the instructor for help if needed.

Students need to know their status in the course so they know what they need to work on. The test should reflect the areas that the student will need to be competent in their careers.

Keeping students informed helps students in many ways. As mentioned it confirms their understanding of the subject and sometimes their misunderstanding.

If a student is not understanding it may be reflected in their assignment grade. You can use this as a learning point and help the student to find extra time outside of class to meet with you and/or get tutoring. The student who is doing well in the class gets the grade and is reassured they are learning and studying the information and objectives as needed.

If the student knows and is kept current of the class information, it helps a student to be proactive and not reactive. This is true of not only reflective past grades, but for future assignments and information that will be covered. If due dates and assignment expectations are known, and shared in a timely manner, students can prepare accordingly.

Since this is a fast track learning course the students need to be kept up on their status so that if a problem is occurring it can be handled immediately rather than when it is too late. I am asked constantly where they are, what they need to be done so they are not left behind. I like the fact that I can pull up the grade book and answer their questions right away too!

Hi Terrell:

One thing it may help the student due is become more comforatble approaching the instructor if they need help, something a lot of student's don't do because they feel uncomfortable with the idea of approaching the instructor.

Hi David:

And, this might help create a positive relationship between you and the student, making it more easy for them to ask for help.
