It is important to keep students informed of their status in the course at all times because it allows them to know what their grade is at any given point during the course. They can see how well they are doing, or if they need to work harder to improve. By keeping students informed of their progress, instructors show professionalism. Student stress is reduced since they know exactly how many points they have. Students are able to concentrate on their upcoming assignments and have more confidence about their success in the course.
Students like and need to have ownership in their learning. Bu remaining current and up-to-date with student status keeps them involved and motivated, but it also sets a very positive role model example for them.
Informing students of their progress and status helps direct student studying and focus. If they are struggling in an area, the feedback can help them to stop, reflect, re-examine, really seek to comprehend, etc., before moving on to the next phase. These formative success points helps to motivate and ensure comprehension.
Hi Walter:
Giving the students information about how they are doing can also provide them motivation to make changes in study habits.

Hi Richard:
You got it. To generalize, students can make changes in their study habits which may result in better outcomes for them.

Hi Melanie:
That's very important. And, by showing the students where they are, they may be able to make changes in study habits that can result in better outcomes.

Hi Dan:
That's true - by allowig the student a chance to see where they are and discuss methods of improvement (if necessary), the student may be motivated to make those changes for better outcomes.

Hi Durrell:
Yes, and also provides the opportunity for the student to make changes in their study habits.

Hi Patrick:
Very true - by showing the student where they stand allows them the chance to make corrections in study habits for more successful outcomes.
Regards, Barry
I believe students should know where they stand with their grades at all times. I keep my grade book up to date always, so at any given time a student can come to me for their current grade. Another thing I do is send out "academic alerts" to my students who have a "C" or below in my classes. This is not to say a "C" is a BAD grade, but in our medical classes, a "D" will fail a student. So the alerts give them a heads-up that they may already have a low grade or be getting close, so they need to watch attendance, complete required projects, & do well on their tests in order not to have that "C" drop to a "D" or at least try to bring that "D" up to a "C".
Hi Mark:
By allowing the student the chance to see where they are throughout the course, they can make corrections in study habits to bring them to more successful outcomes.
Regards, Barry
Hi Anthony:
By allowing students the chance to see where they're at academically, they can make changes in study habits that can help them come to a more successful outcome in that class.
Regards, Barry
Hi Dianne:
Also, it allows the student the chance to make changes in study habits that may be more effective with bringing them the outcome they want.
Regards, Barry
Hi Khalia:
Also, by keeping the student up to date on their academic standing can allow them to make changes in the study habits.
Making positive changes may help them have more successful outcomes.

Keeping the students informed of their progress throughout the course enables them to monitor how they are doing. They are aware of areas they need to make improvements and areas they are doing well. This way the students can make necessary adjustments to their study habits and work assignments.
Hi Cindy:
That's right - and also, this allows them the chance to make corrections in study habits sooner than later.
Regards, Barry
Hi Isabel:
Right, and also by allowing the chance to make corrections in their study habits, they may have a more successful outcome.
