Hi Lauren,
I think students seeing their teachers preparation may be swayed and adopt or emulate some of the practices they observe. I would say your statement about commitment is most important, and whether students are positively impacted by it or not, our commitment to do our best still has to be there. But you're right, the better students will pick up on things theuy see that assist them being succesful.

Hi Jenni,
When we are unprepared, we can't expect much else from the students either.

Barry Westling

Preparation is everything. I'm a strong believer in leading by example in everything i do. Perhaps if a student sees my commitment to my profession, he/she can adopt that same attitude to the course.

It gives the students faith that they are involved in a meaningful class that is important for their career.

Hi George,
Wasting time is one of things I dread - both as a student and as a teacher. Sometimes students won't say anything (because they're not being asked to do anything) when a teacher is ill prepared. But they'll notice, and that can likely reflect poorly on the instructor and maybe even their confidence whether their teacher has a sincere desire to teach or not.

Hi Dale,
You're right about expectations by students. Having everything laid out, ready to go, and arriving early to answer questions (or even just chat) helps build strong relationships and adds a sense of confidence students have in their their teachers competence.

Barry Westling

It make the class go much smoother. The Students think that you don't know what you are doing if you aren't prepared and Organized. By beign prepared and organized, you don't waist valuable class time.

As a paid educator your students arrive to class from a desire to be there, not because they are required to. Your students arrive with the expectation of a well prepared, professional atmosphere. A lack of preparedness can indicate a lack of seriousness to the subject matter. If your students observe the instructor as being well prepared for teaching then their desire for learning will also be increased.

Hi Juan,
Great! Our willingness to help, and the students willingness to come to us makes for a great learning senvironment.

Hi Candace,
I think your point that being organized not only creates more instructiional time, but also creates a better learning environment because resources, materials, and the daily game plan is mapped out. This helps the students to achieve and excell.

Barry Westling

Hi Barry,

You are very correct on what you have stated about the results when the instructor gains the students' trust and respect. Another thing I have found is that they are more willing to come to the instructor for help and guidance.

I feel that if the students see their instructor as an organized individual, it will help them to understand that organization is the key to success. This will also give the students the knowledge that the instructor respects them by having everything ready before hand so that more time is spend lecturing and focusing on the classwork and less time trying to get organized and ready for the class.

Hi Juan,
Gaining student trust and respect is paramount to providing a effective learning environment. With trust, students will be more willing to comply with our instructions and accept what we have to say.

When the instructor is organized and prepare it show the student the she/he cares about them and their learing. Being organize will also help to gain confidence from the students. They will trust the instruction that he/she knows the material and they want to give their attention to the instruction.

I agree with Steve,to me as an instructor, I SEE MYSELF AS DRIVING MY STUDENTS TO A DESTINATION.
iF THE TRIP IS NOT WELL PLANNED,we may end up where we dont want to be, a well planned trip is the one we all remember for the rest of our lives, so each day I come into the classroom, taking my students on a well planned trip,of course even with all the planning there could be hurdles and thats when plan "B" should be put in place.

Hi Amina,
Good point. There is something about creating a perception yet, there has to be that reality of prepared for class actions that give support to the perception. In the end, when students see the teacher is prepared, they'll recognize the class is important, the teacher tis taking the class seriously, and to do well, they'll in turn come prepared and ready to learn.

Barry Westling

as we know perception is reality, what you see is what you believe,a well organized instructor creates a very smooth and positive learning environment, the students percieve this as conducive to the day to day operation in a classroom setting.

Hi Betty,
Good points there, Betty. So much of what we do as educators is based on relationships, just about anything we can do to strengthen the perception by students we have all of our act together is going to foster students taking their classes more seriously as they'll be more attentive and focused. The time and effort given to getting ready for classes does pay off in student learning, and that is a very satisfying feeling.

Barry Westling

I believe that good organization and preparation is key to success in the classroom for both teacher and students. If a teacher has thoroughly prepared for a lesson and has all the required materials readily available when class begins, then learning can begin immediately. No time is wasted looking for handouts, etc. The teacher is also more prepared for anything that might come up as far as questions from students about a certain concept or problem. This allows the teacher to give an appropriate response or to bring in more feedback from the students. By being organized and prepared, the teacher gains respect from the students and,in addition, shows respect in return by demonstrating that he/she cares about helping students learn. Also, the teacher sets an example for the students to follow. Students can see that organization and preparation leads to better learning and time management and that if they do the same with their studies, they will succeed in their endeavors for a better career.

Hi Glenn,
Yes, our preparation can set an example, as does competent instruction, delivered in an interesting way, using lots of variety, and ensuring all students are engaged in the lesson. That probably won't happen without adequate preparation.
