Hi Carla:

One thing to keep in mind is the idea of BALANCE when discussing or thinking about personality in the classroom. If there is too much of any personality style, be it too humorous, or too strict, etc., this may serve only to distract the student from a full understanding of the course material.

I learn by doing so a large portion of my class activities are "hands on". This fits my personlaity and also gives the students exposure and actual experience in whatever the activity is.

My delivery method greatly influences my students behavior during the lecture. If I allow a negative personality to dictate my delivery it has a costly effect on how the students receive the material.

Some of the information I have to impart can be fairly boring. I find that if I use my sense of humor and/or life experiences, it spices it up a little bit. This makes the learning time more enjoyable and more learnable.

personality is everything! if you go into a classroom with an attitude, the students will give you attitude right back. there have been numerous occasions where i had to take a class over 2 weeks into because the instructor had a "militaristic" attitude...that does not go over real well. that displays to the students that you are superior to them. which is not the case

A big one! It's important to stick to your personality. Acting unlike yourself will be read across to the students and will give them a reason to not trust you. If they don't trust you, the information you teach will be regarded in the same way.
