The idea of balance is key when discussing instructor personality. If an instructor is too strict, or vice-versa, too humorous - each of these extremes can serve to distract the student from the learning material.

In addition to personal stories, something that may also work well is group discussions (dividing students into small groups and assigning each a short topic to work out and present to the class).

I'm constantly changing depending on the talent of the class. posing questions to get them to answer and get involved is my most common method

I feel that your personality should closely match the delivery methods that you use, so that you are comfortable with the way you are teaching the information. This way you are not stressing trying to be someone you are not while passing on the course material.

As a younger instructor, I believe that it is very imporant to have high energy in the classroom to make the material more interesting to the students. I constantly reflect back to when I was in college and how different instructors that I had delivered their material. I try and mimic the techniques that my old instructors did and bring that into my classroom to keep my students intrested and motivated.

The personality dimension of a teacher is his/her personal qualities and behaviors. It includes how the teacher interacts with students, what are their typical solving methods are, and how they react in difficult situations or unusual situations. Is the teacher outgoing and engaging? Do you have passion and enthusiasm for the subject you are teaching? Are you patient? Considerate? Approachable? Confident? How do you dress? Our personality results in how we perceive ourselves, and how we are perceive by others. It is all about connection with students.
A teaching style is an outgrowth of the teacher’s personality and character, in which a distinctive style or approach emerges. By nature, I am an outgoing person. I know my subject and I love what I do. I should say that in the beginning, I was not so assertive and did not know too much about teaching style and how to deliver the content of my courses. My teaching style and how I deliver the content of my courses emerged over time and mostly in response to negative and positive feedback received from students and peers evaluations.

I am a passionate instructor and feverently hope that my passion for the topic excites others. I have noticed this response in others as we talk in an informal setting and so view this as a strength - so lecture is a good choice for me. I also like to use visual aids and pictures as a way to keep my hands from waving around as I can often visually support my lecture information by drawing or demonstrating using models.

Definitely - if student's feel the instructor is friendly and approachable, this can only serve to help create an effective learning environment.

I agree. If an instructor is friendly and approachable, this facilitates the learning relationship. Keep in mind that any extreme in personality (to much humor, too strict, etc.) may only serve to distract the student.
