Re-cover why they, students are coming to school and to this course. Some students will loose sight of there dreams. To give students confidence in both personally and professionally so student will continue to development in their education. Cover the topics that will be covered in this course and put on white board what will be covered that day. One thing that I have learned is that every class is going to be different in the way that students will learn. As an Instructor new or veteran you must have the confidence in yourself to handle the type of learning of each class will need. I always look over the class schedule to check for any changes like tests, days off and how may class there will be.

The comments made by Kenneth Willard are very useful. The challenge seems to be starting the process of student instructor engagement. I will focus on developing interactive activities to begin engaging students the first day of class.

I like to review my course out line and build a lesson plan that matches the material. I start off my first day of class by telling the the class what we are going to cover during the course, my expectations from them and try to get to know them as well as start the process of matching names to faces. I also let them know a little about my background and start the process of student instructor engagement.Ken Willand

first i start with a cup of coffee and think about what i would like to see if i were the student.I make shure i have all my hand outs and training aids ready before class. I meet them at the door and welcome them.then i let the info flow.

I like to be overly prepaired . I like to go over the material and tests to see if i need to up date any thing. I like to have books and traing-aids out and ready to use. I also like to meet the students at the door on the first day so they feel welcome.

The first thing I find helpfull as I go through my class notes, Labs and tests. Is to define what I need the studants to take with them as a tool that will help them succed in their carrer. And after that a good positive attitude that will help to deliver the tools to an accepting class.

Hi Steve. I like to set the class up with all the training aids i will need for the first day. I have copies of all the handouts necessary. the day's agenda on the board and greet the students at the door.

Being in the classroom early in order to be mentally prepared for the class is very important to me. I like to have my mindset in the right place in order to put that same feeling across to the students.

Even though I have over class materal many times Iwill scan materal one more time to see if there is any thing that that i might add.
I will also make a seating chart & make sure every thing is in order as far as training aids
& lab projects

Steve, I will ensure that the classroom is organized properly so that I can see everbody and that the students can see the board without straining. I also reveiw the training material that I will be covering to make sure that I present up to date and rellivant material. I ensure that I'm to work early so I can write the days objectives on the baord, make any photo copies nessisary for the days class. I then begin by greeting my students as they enter my classroom, then I introduce myself and let them know what they will learn, how will they get there and how it will benifit them. I then go into finding out about them, thier background and what motivates them. This helps in the fact that all students are different, so my instruction needs to fit the class, I also ensure that I try to keep up on the lattest training in the areas that I instruct so that I can answer questions as they arise. being knowledgeable in the subject area is essential. and only bennifits the students. ( after this I call my phycologist and he tell's me all will be ok )

The way I prepare for a new class is just to be sure that I am organized with training aids and materials.I have found that doing a quick overview of my power point prepairs me for the class. This way I already know how I'm going to present it.Yes every class may be different because of students personalities and learning styles but you change the way you present materials accordingly.Having the confidence in the area that you teach, knowing the material and learning a little about the students the first day is key.IF you throw an Instructor into a class that the Instructor has never taught.I don't care how much notes and materials you cram down his/her throat,if you don't have the experience of hands on in the field, you will never be effective in the class or lab.

I like to introduce myself and explain my qualifcations to be able to teach the course, then i will set my class expectations and ogjectives for the course, the next step is s.o.p.s for the course and school...I also have hand outs for the subject matter ready for students as needed for the subject matter.

i will be on time meet my class at the door and why i meet my class at the door is 1 to welcom them in to my clsass 2 to see if they are in dress code,, iwill have all copies that i need for that first day in my class

Thanks Salvatore, you're right; breaking the ice, introductions, interesting activities, and overall expectations are all excellent things to cover before getting into the ground rules. Hopefully before the policies are covered, students have had the chance to begin connecting to instructor and environment.

Thanks. William! It sounds very organized. I also plan for an icebreaker so that students can get to know each other and, during class time, make sure that expectations from both myself and students are clearly defined. Thanks!

I start preparing for the first day of a new course the Friday before.Making copies checking training aids seeing what's broken and what is missing or out for repair so I don't go looking for somthing during lecture or for a demo that is not there and then have to shift gears in the middle of class. Then on monday I get to school early and meet students. Introduction starts with a quick personal intro of myself and then I talk about the course outline and the schedule and try to generate some excitement about the course and lab and what they will be learning.I like to get them a little modivated before I get into all the rules and some of what they may feel is negative. I find if I can get them to feel like we are in this together and on the same side then following the rules is something we are doing together for the benifit of the hole class.

In preparing to meet the class for the first day. I review the material and go over any changes that may have happened during the current time frame. I also get out any handouts for the first day and place a 15 day schedule on the board for the students to see when we are in lab and classroom and when the tests are given and on what day the lab assignments will be due for the course.

Hi Steve, I prepare for my first class by making sure that I have all the books ready for the students. That I am prepared like being up to date on the most current info on the subject that I am goining to teach.I like to be organized and have my instrutor guide in place and have hands on activities at the ready to keep students engaged.

Hello Steve,
Before I meet with a new class, I review my role as an instructor. First, I make sure I have all of the materials I'll need for the class. This includes, hand outs, training aids, ect. I'll also review the lesson plan and power point. In my opinion, being prepared shows the class that you're a professional.
