It helps speed up the process of overall class learning and I can teach more effectively and give the students more information in a comfortable manner

As I am a new teacher, this will assist me in doing an assessment as I begin a new semester.

Knowing the different learning styles of your students helps you get through to all your students and help them get the knowledge they will need to be successful.

Hi Andrea, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, that is exactly why varying our delivery is the best strategy to reach all the learning styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

By knowing the learning styles of your students, you can create a lesson plan that uses different teaching methods to reach more students. By guessing and/or just delivering information in one manner, at best you might reach about half of your students. By targeting each learning style, one might reach each student at some point during the class.

Hi Robert, Thanks for your post to the forum. I find that sometimes students have never really thought about how they learn. It starts a whole new process of study skills. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hi Philip, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is perfectly fine - it also helps students to learn to accommodate the learning styles of others. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Is it wrong to ask my class what is thier best method of learning? I do this so I can kinda group them, one from each learning group so they can help each other during class.

I find this can help you develop a lesson plan to relate to the diverse induviduals in the class. I always start by asking how they each learn.

Hi Eric, thanks for your post to the forum. As you mention, the extra work we put in at the beginning of classes has big payoffs as the class progresses. Also, we develop strategies for working with the various learning styles that we can keep in our "tool kits" to use each time we teach a class. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Knowing the learning styles of your students will help you move more easily through your material with the students understanding the covered topics. If you can tailor your instruction to your student learning styles you can ensure the maximum understanding, thus reducing the amount of time you have to spend going back over previously covered content.
By putting in the work in the beginning of the course to better know your students, you will benefit by having an easier time of teaching those students throughout the course. This will allow you to cover more material, and/or spend more time on difficult topics.

Hi Nicole, Thanks for your post to the forum. You certainly have a strong grasp of the learning styles of your students which is very important. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hi Teresa, Thanks for your post to the forum. Here is an assessment that I use:

I teach Math most often and I need to know my students learning styles. Some benefit from doing problems at your seat by yourself so they have experience solving the problems themselves. Others benefit by reading the book and would do well in online classes. While still others learn by watching me do problems on the board. I have to juggle all learning styles to have all my students successful.

If I can know how each student learns best, then I can make better decisions in how to instruct them. If I only teach one way, I will definitely not reach each student.

I am a new teacher and learning about the different learning styles have given me some ideas to incorporate into my teaching to benefit the different syles of learning

I would love to incorporate a learning style assessment during the admissions process or at orientation. Can anyone direct me to a good but brief assessment?

I continually vary teaching methods to meet the different learning styles of students. I find many adult students prefer hands on activities.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your post to the forum. Giving students options based on their learning style is a good idea. It can make them feel more in charge of their own learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.
