Knowing the learning styles of my students is almost synonymous to knowing my students. When I know the learning styles of my students and I tailor my teaching methods to suit the diverse learning styles of my students, the teaching/learning process becomes easier and impartation of knowledge is accomplished at a much faster rate. Varying the teaching methods makes the class 'alive' instead of boring.
Hi Paul, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, that is important to remember - our students will inevitably encounter different styles in the workplace. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Just knowing that the different learning styles exist is beneficial. From that, course delivery methods can be designed.
I usually deliver via more than one method, because I've found that students possess a primary learning style, but they also benefit from other secondary ones.
Knowing your students’ learning styles will increase instructors effectiveness.
In order to engage the students it is critical to assess and teach to their individual strengths
Hi Kareme, Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that using case studies is a good way to demonstrate the relevance of what we are teaching. I especially like your idea of an ongoing case study throughout the course. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Since I teach a fully online course, it's a little bit more challenging to teach to learning styles in the course.
The benefits of any knowledge of learning styles is pretty obvious. As a partner in students' education, knowing the individual and combined preferences and styles increases the chances of success through accomplishment. When a student's learning style is known, I can make suggestions as to how to attack the material.
I use an ongoing case study in my class, and part of the reason is that it creates a backdrop that makes the information more practical than theoretical.
Hi Dave, Thanks for your post to the forum. I have had the same observations and so plan my lessons accordingly. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Knowing the learning styles of students helps reduce the time needed to deliver the material being taught in class. It seems to me that younger students are visual learners because they have grown up with computers but they hate PowerPoint presentations; whereas adults usually will read the subject matter and understand it.
I do as well. Students are more aware of their learning styles and are proactive in making their preferences known.
It helps me understand each students individual needs and how I can use different techniques while teaching the same concept so all my students understand and learn.
Hi Leslie, Thanks for your post to the forum. I try to vary my delivery formats in all of my classes as it allows students to use their preferred style as well as become used to other styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

It is important that you know the learning sytles of your student so you can modify pertinent teaching methods to reach all of the students. If you had students that were visual learners and you were not offering any visual materials, they would have a hard time grasping the content and would become very frustrated. The same applies for any of the other types of learners.
There are some students that I have that are very much hands on and suffer with test grades. Then again there are students whom are great test takers but suffer with the hands on aspect. Coming up with a happy medium is key in having a balanced and happy classroom.
When an Instructor knows the learning style of their students, it will be much easier for them to prepare lesson plans. There is all types of ways for information to be delivered to the students and an Instructor should take the opportunity to find out what works best. This will ensure that the students are getting what they need from this class.

This is great! Studying about the different learning styles and rediscovering mine is truly an eye opener. My course content relies heavily on powerpoint presentations and I'm excited to get more ideas to help reach out to all of my students.
