I think this could be a great exercise that would appeal to six of the seven MI. I think the music will enhance the activity for the majority.

This exercise would map to all seven of the multiple intelligences by catering to all of them at the same time.

Interpersonal-they would be working with the rest of the class to get the activity completed.
Intrapersonal- they would have to use there own reasoning to find the other students they needed to find for the activity.
Linguistic/verbal-The students would be communicating with each other to get the activity completed.
spatial/visual-they would have the 5 steps wrote down on a piece of paper or on the board, after they found the others for the group, they would see how everything fit together.
Musical-the instructor is playing music while the activity is going on.
Logical/Mathematical-the student needs to use logic to figure out who else has the other steps that they need.

Summer,
I agree that the best strategy, when we can, is to directly discuss with our students how they learn & the best way for them to learn.

Dr. Ryan Meers

I think one mistake we frequently make in American education is not talking to our students about the educational process that is taking place. I frequently give students a MI test and discuss the results. We discuss how they have seen an impact in their education, at work and in their personal life. Sometimes activities can seem gimmicky to students, when teaching them directly about how they learn is more effective.

For example, I know several teachers that are fond of role-playing exercises. I have come across very few students in my time as a teacher that found them to be a valuable experience, especially older students.

The way the exercise is designed the students would engage in many of the intelligences without even knowing it. Although, each would realize afterward that learning had taken place through the combination of (Kinsethic, music, spacial, interpersonal, linguistic, and logical intelligences). This actually sounds quite fun!

Shanika, you are correct! implementing team-building skills inside the classroom creates a stress-free environment.

Carol,
yes, the group or team projects can be a great way to get all students involved.

Dr. Ryan Meers

each student on the team can contribute to the task by knowing and using their strengths and weaknesses

Each student can recognize what works for them, if they like to do things alone, or in groups. Do they have something in common with another student

To start, the music will 'energize' the students to do the exerise quickly. For those who are muscial, and even those who aren't, they'll sense the modivation to get the job done - Emotional. The other will make require student to utlize their Interpersonal - aptitude for working with others -- and Spatial/visual, the aptitude for picturing.

This requires the student to communicate with others and problem solve while working with others. This would involve the use of all seven.

Knowing that the activity has learning styles catering to the multiple intelligences, ensures that all learners will process learning about stress in a easier way for them.

To give the students some guidance, it would be helpful to align the activity to the learning ojectives of stress.

After completing the workshop, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the symptoms of stress.
- Be able to practice stress relief by taking 10
deep breaths.
- Relief stress by working in the right project
right now, before going on to another project.

During the exercise of stress management the instructor plays music.
Music: None - during the explanation of stress
management.
Fast Music - when students involve in the stress mgmt technique, and follow the instructor or follow from a video.

Fun music - when learners do the stress mangements technique

Frantic music - When learners have finished the lesson and leave the class.

Mapping he activity to the multiple intelligences:
Interpersonal - learners practice together.
Logical/ mathematical - the method to stress management
spatial/ visual - a video is used to follow the steps of stress mgmt.
Musical - music during stress practice
Linguistics/ verbal - exlanantion of the stress technique in words and movement
Intrapersonal - learners watch video and do the steps by themselves
Bodily/ Kinesthetic - learners do the practice by relaxing their bodies

by picking the teams they can be strong in completing their task. this excercise is a good one because it build knowledge of others.

I can see that a number of the Multiple Intelligences would be needed. Interpersonal in that they need to work with others. Logical/mathematical because the need to make some logical deductions. Spatial/visual as they need to observe the others in the room. Emotional as they need to identify emotion (stress). Finally, existential as they need to understand what they are doing and accomplish the task successfully. Regarding the music, they should use the Musical intelligence to recognize that the activity should be fun yet quick.

I agree, teamwork is the key

Interpersonal because they are working together with the goal of finding each other. Logical/ Mathematical because they have to come up with reasons/ conclusions on which one of their classmates belongs in their group. Emotional by identifying what other's are feeling based on the process they were supposed to "act". Existential since each one of the individuals has a particular purpose of acting a stress manangement process.

You really need to be a people person when in the classrom, you need to be able to read people to be able to make the content interesting to as many learners as possible.

Kinetic: - deep breaths
Musical - upbeat music playing-motivates speed
verbal/linguistic: must remember the 5 steps
Logical: arrange in order
visual: - organize a strategy for doing this rapidly
Interpersonal: results in a group and working with them to get the correct order
Intrapersonal: weak

The fun, fast and frantic music will energize each student to want to move around, talk to classmates, observe what others are doing about the same task, and finally connect with and share with the other members of their team, hopefully being first to obtain that hard sought after prize that is waiting thus relieving their anticipation. What a great anticipatory set and idea. Think I just might try it in my profesional development class.
