Through their feedback I have a better understanding on what parts of the course they are understanding and what parts they may be lacking in and that I could improve on and better my lecturing on.
Bradley,
This is a great strategy to use. You get input via feedback about the course and the students see that their opinions are valued.

I get student feedback by getting a small discussion going after covering the days materials.Feedback from this gives me a good idea of what I need to go over again.
Student feedback is a necessary component of the educational experience. We can learn a lot about our lesson, our courses, our schools, and ourselves if we listen to our students opinions and feedback. Students also can feel respected and part of the process if they know we care about what they think.... it fosters student enthusiasm.
Gail,
Good point because student feedback is how we improve our instructional efforts. I get frequent feedback from my students throughout each course so I can reinforce what I am doing and change things that need to be changed. I am not a big fan of the end of course evaluations because they are standardized to the point that feedback is not really given on specific projects, activities or quizzes.

Getting positive feedback from my students makes me want to help them more and validates that I am helping them. Even the negative feedback motivates me to research and find out how to better help them with the issues they are facing.
Mark,
Student feedback is how instructional improvement is made. This is how you learn what works and what doesn't so you adapt and modify as you go through the course. I get frequent feedback from my students because I find that this is little or no value to be gotten from the end of course formal evaluations.

Students can let you know how your lecture and other teaching styles are helping them to learn. This can give the instructor a good idea about prepared materials; like how they are working, which ones to change.
Martha,
This is how instructional improvement is made. Student feedback is a way to give us specifics on how we can make changes that will enhance the learning process.

Student feedback helps me know where I've been successful in sharing information about a concept or skill and what areas I need to reassess. It also lets the students know that I am willing to listen to their feedback and opinions.
D,
How do you get student feedback and then incorporate their suggestions?

Jessica,
This is such a valuable time for students. You can really have an impact on their development if you carefully consider the feedback you give them and shape it so they see the value of what you are telling them. Some amazing growth comes out of sessions like this.

When we ask the students for their feedback, it gives us the opportunity to try and fix something that they feel isn't working. Or it gives us the opportunity to know what is working, and continue to do those things.
Debora,
Ongoing feedback is how we become more effective at what we do so we need to plan how we are going to get ongoing feedback from out students throughout our course.

Earl,
Good advice for all instructors to remember as they share their content.

The feedback of my students help me to see my strengths and weeknesses. This allows me to have a bases of what I need to work on both professionally and personally.
It makes that connection. A teacher many times get on a roll, forgetting the student may not be making that connection.
Rita,
It is easy to let such students take away your job of being an instructor. I like your approach of using the positive feedback comments from students to help you see the value in what you are doing. I am always sad when I find that I have not reached each and every student but when I reflect on what I have done I know I have provided each student with the best professional skills I have so I know I can feel good that I have been a quality professional educator and that the loss really rests with them.

Student surveys are a good tool for constructive feedback.
