I'm glad to hear you find ways to make your job fun James. I'd love to hear more about your techniques.
Wow, I like the way you make time to walk between classes James. Most instructors don't break up their day this way, but the variety probably keeps your energy high and keeps you focused.
I have know about the methods for coping with stress and do find the breathing very helpful. I sometimes forget to use all methods.
I have started to emphasis to my students some of the methods mentioned in this course. I am going to make a serious effort to start exercising and incorporating all 5 methods into my daily life. Good Course. Thanks for the info.
find things to make my job fun, not sweat over thing I have no control over, and have more conversations with my peers regarding the problemsthat may pop up.
Every day i take my dogs for a 45 minute walk in between classes.I also play golf or just hit golf balls to relieve stess.
Interesting Christine. Most of these activities are completed independently, with the exception of spending time with family. It sounds like you may be the kind of person who draws your energy by spending time with and by yourself.
For me quiet time, excercise and time with my family are some of the best ways for me to cope with my stressors. Hiking and yoga work very well for me and I can tell when I am not getting enough of these activities. The nice thing about these methods is that they are free, easy to access and don't have to take much time to get tremendous benefit. What I do want to work on is getting more and better sleep than I have been lately.
Indeed. It's important to try to focus on the things we can control rather than worrying about the things we can't.
Spend less time thinking about the things i have no control over, and focus on the things i can control.
Yes, it is important to carefully study your stressors to identify the best solutions. Sometimes we are too reactive to your point.
ITS REALLY HARD TO BE HONEST ABOUT REALLY BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. I FEEL THAT WE HERE AS A COUNTRY HAVE NEVER BEEN VERY GOOD AT REDUCEING STRESS. WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN REACTIVE RATHER THAN PROACTIVE. THIS NEEDS TO TURN AROUND IN ONES FUTURE PROSPECTIVE. ALWAYS CHASING AFTER THE ANSWER RATHER THAN TAKING THE TIME TO STUDY IT FIRST. IT HAS TO START WITHIN. WE ALL KNOW THAT THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN RESISTANCE IN ONES LIFE TO THE WORD CHANGE. THUS COMES STRESS!
Sometimes sharing problems with the source of your stress isn't helpful. Try sharing with someone you can trust who is outside of your stress situation.
I believe that both sharing and more exercise is what's needed in my life to cope with my stress. the origin of my stress is family related so its not just a simple matter of elimination. and sharing these problems with them has not helped.
That sounds like a great stress reducer Mark! I like the way you incorporate visualization into your exercise routine!
Me, I like to ride my bike home from work. Unlike the way to work which is almost all downhill and relaxing, the ride home requires standing up on the pedals. I visualize crushing my obstacles during those times. Take that! and That! as I work up a good healthy sweat.
Works for me!!!
Yes, being limited on time is a huge stress for many instructors. Balancing so many responsibilities also seems tough. Taking the time to exercise could help you get energized and may make dealing with so much stress a little easier.
The main stressor that can not be eliminated is time. I feel that I do manage my time fairly well. However, between my full-time job, part-time work, family, and home, I sometimes with there were more hours in the day. I feel that I need get back into my exercise routine by making more time for it.
Reconfiguring your class into small groups will definitely help get them talking. Ice breaker activities as a class can also help tremendously.
Find alternatives was to mitigate the stress through exercise, changing scenery, etc. I may have a class that does not talk and stresses me out, I will alter my curriculim to put them into small groups to organize thoughts and then report out which helps the discussions along.
Sounds great Paul. Breathing and stretching can happen anywhere so they are perfect when you're on the go.
