I will use an example of a past student and remove their name so FERPA is persrved. Also sometimes the attitude of the student or other students can be changed, so I usually do not use the work of a present student. I will form work groups of students of varying strengths and abilities, and assure that all students contribute. While one student may lead, all are expected to lead, and I use a form to assure that students assess each other to make sure that they all contribute to the project as they are expected to in their future work projects. Division of labor is great! Especially according to strengths :)

I very much like rubrics and believe they should be used all the time, but once again should be explained to the students and RE-ENFORCED by use of examples in the well written rubric. Once the students get the hang of them, they usually love the direction they recieve from rubrics. They know what they need to do to get their A, B, or C.

Hi Glenda,
I concur. Students seem to be a lot more at ease once examples are shared with them. A lot of students get motivated and excited after being shown an example. They get the drive to get the project started.

Hi Florita,
A great way to get students motivated and excited is to show them an example of the completed assignment. Examples clarify a lot of questions students may have.
Patricia
It is helpful to show students examples of the work they will be doing so they have an idea of what is expected from them. To brighten or envision the route or path on the subject they are working on.
Showing examples of student work, helps to clarify what you are looking for in the assignments, helps to alleviate undue stress and anxiety of your students.
Hi Mike,
Students love being shown examples because examples add a lot of clarity as to what is expected. They get to see a visual of the end product.
Patricia
To show them that you know what you are teaching
and have knowleadge in the field you are teaching
The examples will show the students what is expected and may also, decrease the students anxiety of the expectations.
To help the students understand the actual work that they will have to do
I have found that showing the students examples of how the questions and/or project should be answered or formatted offers them a template. Some may choose to utilize the example; the higher-level student’s usually create their own memory tools and take their learning to the next level. Everyone wins!
Hi Cindy,
No one does well with the unknown. Students need to know exactly what is expected of them. Examples provide great clarity.
Patricia
Showing examples helps a student know what is expected of them and relieves anxiety of the "unknown".
So many of our students are hands on learners who need to view topics before they actually jump in. Showing example is a great way to reinforce the lesson plan being taught
So they can have a mentor picture of the work that they will be doing.
Hi Anita,
Examples are very encouraging and a super confidence builder! Use examples, students love them and really feed off of them.
Patricia
To keep them motivated and eager to keep going in their related fields.
Hi Lynn,
I know, it is great for all involved. Students appreciate being shown an example because they SEE exactly what they need to do.
Patricia
Hi Cristina,
Visual adds great clarity! Students have a better understanding by seeing exactly what is expected of them.
Patricia
Hi Jimmy,
Visualization makes things very clear to students. Students tend to really understand better if they can see it.
