Hi Melinda,
Sharing examples really help students to breathe freely. It really is like a sigh of relief, and it gives them cofidence and motivation as well.

If this is a new class for them, it is helpful to put some ideas in their head of what a specific project or assignment is expected to look like. This will alleviate stress about what the outcome should be.
Hi Tony,
Seeing is believing! It sticks better when students can see it.

First day of the class I show them what their welds will look like as they progess in their welding skills. I also show them a picture of a students welding test that did not get him a welding job. You only cheat yourself by cheating!
Showing examples of previous work is so helpful. I always have examples to show my students. They really appreciate that. It gives them ideas to use and to try to do better then what they've seen. Staci Keen
I think it is helpful to show students examples to possibly help ease their anxiety about future projects and/or tasks and to be able to see that the upcoming tasks and assignments are "do able" and can be achieved during the course. Also, if the example is from a past student, it could also serve as a model as to how the project/assignment, etc. should look like.
I also agree wit this concept. The walls of our classroom are covered with student work and this helps when students are looking for what is expected of them.
Hi Heather,
Greater clarity is added if the students can see it.

It is helpful for the student to see a visual of the outcome of the final assignment. Not only has the assignment been explained to them but a finished product shown. This gives the student confidence and provides clarification.
Hi Eurico,
Students like it when they can have a preview. It makes sense to them when they can see it.

When teaching writing, I like to show examples of both professional writers as well as my own work. I like to encourage my students to share their own pieces of writing.
Because giving them ideas, methods and procedures is very effective for them easy to figure it out the next topic they will undertake. This is the preview the preview for them.
Hi Stephanie,
I agree! Visual adds great clarity for a better understanding.

Showing examples of students work engages the students interest, like dangling a carrot. It can also gives the student a peak into their chosen career path. Some students may not really know what they have signed up for. They can then change their career course if they wish.
I tend to keep good assignments form students psss to share as example for future students to use as a visual for the class. It helps them understand and know what is expected of them.
This gives the student better sense of the course and assignment. I like to discuss the course or show and explain the assignment to the student, then by showing examples, hands on, colorful paper to stand out and catch their attention instead of the same old boring white paper. Involving students as volunteers with the demos for all to see.
By reviewing verbally a new course or assignment, then showing examples that the student can see and touch gives them a better understanding of the course or assignment to feel more comfortable, ask more questions, discussions to get more stettled into the course or assignment.
It is good to show student examples, because it shows the students what the instructor is expecting, and the quality of work that is exceptable. Also, it helps to see a visual, because most Americans are visual learners. You can tell a student how to format a paper, include references, and make sure to list examples. Some students maybe confused by all the requirements, and then a student sees an example and now the students can see its not as complex as it may seemed at first.
i thinkit helps the students to visualize the requirements and how they can fulfill them. I think it serves to reinforce that they can do the requirements.
Hi Irma,
It is always respectful to honor students if they are not comfortable with sharing their work with the class. Some people are just more passive than others.
