Hi Karen,
See is really believing. Visual adds great clarity!

Hi Maryellen,
Our students need as much guidance as possible.
Patricia Scales
I agree, most students are visualized learners.
It gives them and example to follow and ideas of what you are looking for.
Hi Patsy,
Students really appreciate being shown an example so that they can SEE exactly what is required of them in order to do well with the assignment.
Patricia Scales
Your are correct Mrs. Scales! Visuals do add clarity and better understanding of what is required in different courses.
I concur Robert! When students know what an assignment should look like, then its easier for them to work through the assingment because they know what it should resemble when finished.
When showing examples of what is expected during certain assignments, the students can plan their time better. Most adult learners have families that must be attended to, so knowing what's required of you at school helps to blend it in with the home environment.
Yes! It is great idea to show students how an assignment should look when done correctly! And adding the amount of time and preparation required to achieve a well done assignment.
This is an exceptional precedent! When the ground rules are presented, there will be very little if any confusion for that point on. It's when things are allowed to continue for a while is when we get into a bind.
Yes, some students like to work ahead because of their busy schedules, I prefer this type of student. This student is already motivated and has goals in mind and a set date to reach them! It's truly a pleasure to have this type of student in class.
Yes, most students are visual learners, and the earlier an assignment example is presented, the more comfortable students are, the better they will feel about working the assignment to completition. You have thus, created an air of motivation!
Showing examples of student's work does have it's advantages. It will demonstrate to others how the assignment should look when done correctly. It will also motivate students to interact with each other.
Showing examples of student's work sometime work against your rational. The student with the best work are sometime put upon by other students who are going to put forth much effort in their assignments, and give negative incentives for the good student to do the same. This is not always true, but it happens more often than not.
It is helpful to show your students examples of the work they will be doing in the upcoming course in order for them to gage the time required to complete each assignment.
Hi Lori,
Visual adds clarity, thus giving students a better understanding as to what is expected of them.

Hi Karen,
Students always need precise directions. I always put my instructions in writing so that my students cannot use the excuse oh I did not know. By having a written document, they have something to refer back to.

Hi Diane,
Examples are really appreciated by most students. They are more motivated about getting started after seeing an example.
Patricia Scales
It is important to show students examples of the work they will be doing so that they can get a visual understanding of the upcoming course. Sometimes simply reading a course outline and syllabus do not always allow a student to fully understand what lies ahead. It also gives students a sense of what type of work is expected of them in that particular course.
Lori
This will help set the expectations of the class and take some of the apprehension away from the students. I think it is important for them to feel prepared for upcoming lessons and assignments. With this, clear direction must be given of what is epected from them. For example, if I am having the student create a word document, I clearly outline the content to be covered, the length of the paper and when the assignment is due.
