Each student needs to feel they are important and has your attention. This also allows the instructor to recognize problems that may occur with the students. As an instructor I want to remove barriers to the student. I make sure I'm accessible.
My part of the students interaction is the hands on part or the Lab. It is the place where some of the more timmid are spot lighted. What I do is work with the person, calm their nerviousness.
It's important to build a relationship with each student. Students are prone to perform better when they have an instructor that the feel really cares for them and want to help them be successful. Students can sense if the person is sincere or not and this teacher student relationship is beneficial for both student and instructor.
I have night students, My night students work during the day. So school at night, for them can be hard. They work all day- and then come to school for 4 hours.
I encourage my students not to give up, that their goal is in reach. It is easier for night students to quit. They are tired, they miss their families, etc.
Encouragement lets them know they are important to me- and that I believe in them.
That is why interacting with my students is very important.
It is essential to assessing the progression of the student. Interacting with the student aids the instructor in using teaching strategies which are effecting in meeting the learning objective for that moment in time. One of my favorite strategies I use, is to ask if the students are "Clear", "Cloudy" or "Muddy" in regards to the topic being discussed. This gives me a sense of where the class is and if more or less time is needed before moving on in the discussion.

Hi Veneece,
When we teach, we need to make it a point to reach all three different types of learners.

It is important to interact with the students at any academic level .This will allow teachers to understand the student's learning technique , whether they are visual or audio or Kinesthetic learners .It also allows the teacher to assess the student's understanding of the material taught .
Hi Wendi,
All students are important, and we should make them feel as though they are very important.

It is critical for each student to feel their value in class. I think they need to know that they are important to the instructor and they there needs and concerns are understood by teachers.
Students must learn to interact with thier classmates because in the working working world they must interact with thier co-workers and any others they may come into contact with in the working world.
I like to interact with each individual student. It helps me see how they are learning from the daily discussion.
I feel it is important to interact with every student in order to stay on track in the courses. Thier involvement and understanding as well as energy due to how happy they are is vital to how much the student can get out of the class. Each student has their own personality wether it be non talkative, class pet, etc... It is important to include everyone in lecture/lab so that different viewpoints can be used. each student has something to offer and it builds teamwork to share multiple ideas.
Hi Michael,
I concur! We have to be our students biggest cheerleader and rah them on.

Hi Clare,
Students will give you a good feel as to how effective you taught a lesson/concept.

Hi Jill,
Super! Keep treating all students the same to avoid any problems.

interaction is the foundation of teaching and we as instructors are to engage our student in order to bring the best out of them, it also makes them feel like we care about what they learn and think. Students developed a rapport that can last a life time and make a big impact on them.
It is important to interact with each student to help them realize that they are included and a valued part of the class. Build confindence in shy students by having them contribute to conversations that you know they have experience in. Create success for students and set them up to succeed, not to fail.
Interacting with the students is the best way to improve my teaching methods. When I think I am being clear, it is always good to get feedback to learn with what parts the students are having trouble. Having them interpret what I have just taught them, helps me see where I may have made assumptions that are incorrect.
Hi Patricia, I have found that being equal with initial and ongoing interactions helps deflect any sense of favoritism perceived by the students which, consequently, helps them feel more comfortable coming to me with their questions.
Hi Ashley,
Absolutely! Rapports/relationships are built based on interacting with students. Develop a strong relationship with your students.
