When the instructor interacts with the students it conveys to them that you care about about them and their success. It Helps you, as the instructor, understand each student and how to best help her/him get the most from the class lectures/instruction.

I love teaching because I can have a positive effect on the future of their lives. That said I passionately believe that every student I have ever had or will ever have must be given my full commitment to my craft. Their lives may depend on it. Therefore I make it my business to learn as much as I can (within reason) about the futures they want to create. I love the interaction because it makes for a fascinating and productive 5 hours. Interactivity is a must for a creative and stimulating evening session for my students, who for the most part, have worked all day and may not have much left to give!

I find that interacting with every student in the class lets them know that they are important to me and not just a 'number' as quite a few adult learners think my class will be. Knowing each student on a first name basis and knowing something about the student, I have found, is more important to them that words can explain and then they tend to participate more because they know that I am looking for them to. Its almost as if they are encouraged to learn because they would be embarassed to not have completed an assignment since I know them for the entire time that I have them in class.

Interacting with the sudents is very important because students will be very attentive to the class as well as have interest about the class and instructor also.

I think it is imprtant to have interaction with student because it kepps them learning and focused in class.

Interacting with students serves several purposes. It provides an opportunity for instructors to know students better. They are able to dialogue with the students and develop understanding of students' learning needs, strengths, learning style, interests and concerns about the class content. Interaction with students also affirms the instructor's desire for the student to be successful by validating the student as worthy of the instructor's attention. Interaction also helps the student overcome any anxieties he or she may have by getting to know the instructor better.

I agree. I discuss continuing education all the time in my classes. It is so important in today's economy!

I think that its important because it will show them that you are approachable and help the student fill comfortable with you.

Interaction with every student is important because each student is different; whether it be their style of learning, their style of communicating, their strengths or weaknesses, their passion, their likes or dislikes, their reasons for being in school, all of these are imperative to reaching each individual student and letting them know that you are there to help them achieve their goals. It will help the student to learn and the teacher to teach when a positive interaction occurs.

To interact with students, I come in to the claas early, try to stay in the class during breaks, even stay a few minutes after dismissal. I try to relay the message that I care. Frequently small talk turns into a discussion that helps me understand their concerns and fears. I try to encourage them to stick to their goals even during times of personal crisis.

Hi Curtis,
It is good to know that your instructor is personable, and he/she treats everyone the same.

So all the students know that i am not playing favorites, and they can approach me anytime.

I have found that when I initiate consistent interaction from the beginning, I am able to impart the type of instructor I am, as well as set expectations that will generally be adhered to. Students also feel that I appreciate them as individuals and care about their career paths, which ultimately motivates them. I also think the positive attitude and enthusiasm I demonstrate is most often contagious.

Hi James,
I too like to really get to know each of my students. I give a short learning style test to determine my students learning style.

I think one of the first things to do when a new term starts is to have a get to know you conversation. Include the entire class and encourage everyone to contribute and be sure to contribute a little about yourself.

Hi Sharon,
I love this quote! Students will typically follow the attitude of the instructor. I love putting positive quotes on the board for students to absorb and reflect off.

Hi Rick,
Shy students really have to warm up to those who are around them, and they are more likely to come out of their shell once they warm up. They must feel comfortable around you.

I enjoy teaching and the students in my classes. I like to get to know them and their learning styles. I can only find this out by communicating with them both in and out of class.

I beleive that interaction with every student is “key” to the success of the student and class. I have found that when I talk with a student I can find an interest that the student likes and get the class rolling to most interest. I can now reach the student because I know what he or she likes and I can relate the course to it. It also lets the student relax. It shows that I can be approachable. With this approachability shy students can open up and ask questions

On the first day of class, I give a handout with the quote below. I explain its significance in every aspect of our lives because every person has a "story." If I provide an example of choosing the right attitude each day, my students will often follow suit. If they waiver, I try to discuss with them how they can change their attitude and choose to RESPOND to things rather than REACT and take on themselves more than is necessary.
The handout is: "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company... a church ...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "
