For me class management is about order, learning and success. For the students to be successful, they must learn the material; for the students to learn the material, they must have an orderly environment in which to learn.
Therefore, I believe Classroom management establishes that order, the decorum of how we do things, meeting deadlines etc. so that the student then thrive and learn better; thus becoming successful.
Creating good lesson plans will do nothing, if I do not have order.
Hi Tammy,
I simply cut my students off politely/professionally and let them know we really have to move on. As an instructor you have to be aggressive when needing to reel students back in.

We are on a face paced program and we really do not have a lot of time to get off track. I have one student in the afternoon that tends to take us off track.. sometimes it takes me a little longer than I would like to get back on track.. I am going to use the card idea.. any others anyone has used that has been effective?
Hi Dawn,
As instructors we must produce an environment for effective learning to take place. Preparation is key!

Hello!
Class management for student success is important because being prepared with lessons and activities will result in students learning more in that particular subject.
Hi Mark,
I concur! The instructor must maintain control in the classroom for effective learning to take place.

If you lose control of the classroom your effectiveness of your delivery is affected
Hi Marianne,
It is certainly the instructor's responsibility to produce an environment for effective learning to take place.

Its important to manage your class effectively to enable best use of class time. Recognizing, and eliminating potential problems and managing different student personalities and learning styles enables better use of instructional time for all students.
Students will perform better in a more managed environment. There are clear expectations and they know the limits. It helps create a safe place attitude.
Hi Eddy,
Absolutely! The instructor should create an environment that will allow effective learning to take place.

Managing class effectively sets the tone and expectations for the entire course. Students and teachers can interact more effectively, thus increasing student's retention and more educational opportunities.
Just like the classroom setting, as a nurse it is critical to be able to manage your workload effectively and efficiently orthewise the patients will lose their confidence in your ability to care for them while dealing with a health problem.
Hi Robert,
I love the pronoun we in education. The students need to know that we fully support them and truly care about their success. You do a fabulous job with classroom management! Keep up the great work!

Class management keeps things structured which makes it easier for students to understand what is expected of them and what their behavior and progress should look like both in the classroom and in their future careers.
Having managed many construction projects over my 44 years in the field I understand that you have to start with the basics. Class needs to start on time. I need to be fully prepared to deliver the day's course material. I need to have all necessary lab materials available and neatly organized. I need to give the class a quick overview of the day plan and objectives. When I do this consistantly I have established with my students that they will know what is expected of them and what we will accomplish. Note that I use "we". I strongly feel that the best results are achieved when the students know that as the instructor I will be part of a "team" effort with them in the learning process.
Hi Bibi,
Students want to and need to be in an environment for effective learning to take place.
Patricia Scales
Having the right environment for all students to learn. Without it the students would not be able to learn.Class management helps to create a good rapport with the students, encourages them to succeed and set high expectations.
If you don't manage the class the student will and nothing will get accomplished. Planning and management is important to keep on track and deliver material.
Hi Misty,
You live and learn. Classroom management has to start on Day 1 so that your students know where you stand. Even college students will take advantage of you.
