Having an online presence is important, whether it be via discussion boards or zoom sessions, it is important for the student to know you are available.

The importance of having good classroom management strategies and a supportive relationship with your students in the elearning environment is essential.

I like the idea of posting, or even sending a short bio of myself to the students.

Another method to project your authority is course/module/lesson introductions through (in order of effectiveness):

  1. Video-clips supported by a printable version of the narration script for each video-clip.
  2. Audio supported by a printable version of the audio script and a head-and-shoulder photograph of yourself.
  3. Text supported by a head-and-shoulder photograph of yourself.
  4. Text alone.

Project a confident presence through personal gestures such as explaining your background. That in conjunction with a good rapport with students will help build you up as a positive authoritative figure in the online classroom.

It is important to really be present with the students online.  Students should feel welcomed and invited to to share a brief biography.  The instructor should do the same to facilitate an open, supportive relationship with each student.

One challenge I see will be to convince students to read each other's biographies, as well as participate in discussion forums.  Similar to face-to-face instruction, some students will rach through the course simply to earn the credits.

In this section I have learn how important it is to give my students insight on who I am and what I have achieved along the way. It is also important for me to learn each one one my students as individuals and build relationships with each one of them. Using these strategies will help my students become successful.

Although not as personal, an online profile should deliver a enough information for the student to get an idea of an actual instructor, which should help them feel at ease in the beginning of the course.

This mod taught me the benefits of letting students get to know you and you getting to know the students.

I really love the idea of sharing biographys with the students.  It is important to develop a relationship with each.  This can establish an environment of trust.

I like the idea of posting a short biographical surrary, likewise encouraging the students to post their own biographical statments . I will take that to heart.

I have found being a on-line student that the instuctors I found to be most helpful put more in their introduction to the class than their resume, they all spoke from experince and found a way to sound human.

excellent points

By getting to know your students on a professional and "somewhat personal" level - students will become more comfortable with reaching out on-line.  They will feel more connected to the instructor, classmates, and on-line experience.

One of the tips I've used to project my presence is to discuss my adventure as an ECPI student. I've found that many students in my classes appreciate how I can relate to their struggles. By doing so, the students know they aren't alone as I constantly remind each and every one of them that I am available to them. No matter the time as I do not want to see them become overly frustrated nor to give up.

I learned that personalizing the learning platform is acceptable. To be flexible with online office hours to accommodate the students living in different time zones.

Posting a video clip of your expertise and accomplishments is very effective in asserting authority from a distance. Students feel more comfortable when they can have a greater connection with their instructor.

When students know more about you they feel the personal touch to your class. It will build trust between the teacher and the student.

Establishing a healthy relationship with each student, in order to help any issues with the course or learning processes, apply the experience, knowledge to have a positive outcome. The general discussion  allow students to participate and explore areas of learning .
