Both synchronous and asynchronous learning involves class preparation, developing a social rapore with students and providing numerous feedback on a timely basis.

I learned some techniques for hosting online discussions and how to get better interaction on forum and discussion posts.

I am trying to figure out if a zoom or Google Meet would be considered synchronous discussion.

learned the difference and when to use synchronos and asynchronus

The Asyncronous discussion allows a thing to not to happena the same time. A synschonous occurs with one student at one time or in a small group. Groups over 40 are never recommended for the simple fact that all students perfer rewarded and its difficult if groups are  to large.

Different types and differences in learning stratagies.Any and all tools are helpful.

Th.is section on engaging learners has a lot to offer and a lot to consider, depending on what type of environment you teach in, or if you teach in both environments (asynchronous and synchronous).  The oveall goal, regardless of the type of environment however is to do the right thing, to encourage student / user participation, growth and success. I do have to question some of the guidelines or suggestions offered in this chapter, like having only five or six students in an synchronous discussion - that is simply not reality in today's educational world. Right now, during the Covid-19 Virus situation, teachers in the New York, New Jersey area (and other parts of the country) are conducting online "chat" classes with 30 or more students on a daily basis.

I like how well the course defined asynchronized and synchronized communication. Using asynchronized method can help all students participate.  And remembering that in the online environment, we tend to lose things as humor. Remember this will be helpful for me.  I also liked sharing netiquette for discussions.

All the techniques to encourage participaton and that they are targeted to delvery methods.  I'm definalty incorporated these stratageis into my online course.

I need to remember that just like in a traditional classroom, students may be reluctant to answer or participate especially in a large class. As the teacher prompts are necessary to help those students

Asynchronous discussion is more important in online learning. Instructors who are engaged and contributing can encourage learners to do the same for a better experience.

Learning about the different forms of discussion was informative. In addition, the amount of prep work you need to do for on-line teaching is more than I expected. You are covering yourself and trying to engage the students.

Running an effective discussion board is not only reliant on the effectiveness of the instructor's questions, but also on the reliability and flexibility of the Learning Management System.  Online instruction requires an effective LMS.

I have learned the pros and cons to administering asynchronous and synchronous discussions and that asynchronous is the preferred method for e-learning.  I also learned the importance of soliciting student feedback throughout the course as it will help form your decisions on how to proceed and also identify student needs.

I was reminded that students may have more than one learning style, and it is important to find out what that is so students can be reached/taught in a way that works for them.  I also found it important to teach students of netiquette.  It will be my job to identify the different learning styles of each student, and also to teach students the importance of netiquette so discussions are productive to the entire class.

Reply to Kimialeesha Thomas's post:I agree with that. It is better to have asynchronous discussions to instruct important course content.

I have learned about synchronous and asynchronous meetings and that asunchronous meeting is a better choice with e-learning.

I have learned the diffrence between asynchronous and synchronous and with whom and when to use them. I have learned that feedback is a vital part of e-learning and should encourage participation, confidence, and motivation. It should contain critizim if it is needed in order to fully help the student understand the subject.

I find that in the asynchronous discussion it is important to require students to respond to the initial question or prompt before they can see and then respond to other students' responses.

In this module I have learned that there are various ways learners learn course content. I knew some learners learn by listenting, others by seeing and a great majority learn by doing. I didn't know the types which now it make more sense to me since I have noticed some of the characteristics mentioned in this course.

I intent to modify my course to implement some of the suggestion in the course. One main one is to modify attendance criteria to accomodate student's work schedules.
