Tammy,
Your ability to have the confidence to help mentor your colleagues is very important. If you have had success in conquering stress or alleiviating it makes you a person others should want to follow. Your ability to keep your direction and dedication intact is important.
When you have doubts just keep it simple. These days with pass.
to help others to avoid stressors or people who cause them stress i encourage my peers to take several deep breaths and think about what they are going to say before then say it. to stop during the day and take a mental minute and just think positive
Kimberly,
Many people use exercise to help with their stress but it is important to keep yourself in balance. Your life should be in balance to help with health, recreation, mental acitivity and spiritual rejuvenation.

To handle workplace stress I have found that exercising and staying focused on the goal at hand really helps me to handle what I need to get done as well as assist my coworkers with what I can.
Joseph,
Exercise is a good practice for stress relief. Each of us must have a balance in our lives. The balance consist in the following areas:
Physical Exercise
Healthy Living
Mental Activity
Recreation
Spiritual Rejuvenation
Great way to minimize is to workout and lift heavy weights.
Lawrence,
I once wrote an article about there are no magic swithches with anything. Your approach is along with the balance technique of facing stress. Everyone needs to balance for stress relief by using exercise, mental activity, relaxation, good health habits and spirituality. If a person can practice best practices in these areas they have a chance of beating off the bad stress.
There is no majic bullet to workplace stress. You have use a combination of techniques. For example, walking helps, as well as breathing techniques. Also, it is very important to seek help from co-workers, as they may have a ready solution to your problem.
Joshua,
We all seem to have our own special stress relievers. Yours is a good one because it is productive in many ways. Keep in mind the balance of your life with mental acitivity, exercise, good health practices and spirituality helps to produce stress relief.
Organizing is my biggest stress releaver. At the beginning of each term, it gets very crazy in the Academic Office, so when I can get a moment to step away from the desk, I go in the file room and make sure that the files are organized, or I file documents away. It's somewhat mindless at times and it gets me away from the hustle and bustle of the normal routines.
I also bring in a postive attitude each day, even if I didn't get enough sleep the night before. I find that this helps minimizing the stressful tasks for the day.
Planning in advance and having an action plan really helps a lot as well!
Howard,
Your descption keeps us from advancing with negatism. Encourage positive talk. Have people ehere a rubberband on their wrist. When someone thinkd you are talking negatively they need to anap themselves.
I try to force out negative thoughts and focus on reinforcing thoughts.
Personally, I do a number of different things to help reduce stress. One of my main activities is listening to music. Another one is aromatherapy; however, I would like to try meditation, but I just do not think I can sit still for very long...but that is a goal of mine. For students, I like to suggest that they not always "look at their books" when they get home. I also suggest time management techniques for them to handle stress better, such as having a calendar and planning their daily course of envents.
Lana,
Getting out and refreshing is a very good thing. We all need to step back once in awhile to create more energy for our approach to the challenge.
I make time to get away from the campus for at least 30 minutes during the day; whether it is taking a walk around the area or driving to a near by park or scenic area and relaxing.
I encourage my staff to get away from the campus at least for a short period of time each day (even a walk around the block can make a big difference).
We may think we can relax in our office, breakroom or cubicle area, until some one or some thing is brought to our attention during that "relaxation" time. If we aren't on campus, we will be able to relax and deal with the situations or concerns upon our return.
Fernando,
When we are lucky we have someone who is a good listener and seems to sooth our emotions. This sounds like you have that person. It can be a friend or a spouse.
Perspective on any situation is important. We can endure stress for the right reasons but we have to understand that everything seems to work out one way or another.
Your balance on life is what counts.
I have a friend that I speak with regularly and that helps to talk my problems out. I also try to remember that no one is going to die is I don't get all my work done. The boss may not be happy with me , but things still work out.
I call these moments of truth. If you can resolve the issues with what you can control and do is makes stress disappear.
