Dont worry about things that are out of your control. And make sure to have and religiously use a good planner.

Ricky,

It always good to look at the positive over the negative. If you can do this regularly you can overcome many adversities in your life.

I do incorporate physical activity on a regular basis to reduce stress.

I also practice deep breathing when a stress situation presents itself.

I discovered years ago the pure pleasure of driving a convertible car as a form of stress reduction. When the weather is great, and there are great tunes playing.....problems seem to get much smaller.

Reminding myself of all the things that I need to be thankful of helps to keep myself in check when I start to feel that I have been treated unfairly.

When students feel stress, I tell them how much I admire their drive and dedication in pursuing their dreams.

William,

You are in control of your own destiny. Look on the brighter side. We have more to look forward too.

My problem is that I have not been able to handle the workplace stress. We here at school see around sixty different minds aday and sometimes the balenceing act is very tight. But now that I have had a chance to go thru this course and actually see all is for naught and there are ways to cope I see that there are ways to handle the daily grinds. Stop, Breath, Relax!

Spiritual rejuvenation is a great point! Sometimes you just have to acknowledge that there is something out there that is greater than you are. Whew... that does relieve some stress!

James,

A balance in your life helps to face stress. Exercise, mental activity, recreation, health habits and spiritual rejuventation keeps stress in a controlled state.

There are several things that I have done in the past and continue to do today.

1. Exercise
2. Try to relax
3. Determine what exactly the problem that is causing me stress
4. Take a short break

Spending time with your patience has advantages for you and your patience. Your bed side manner helps patience keep up their spirits facing the challenges they have in store for them. Paper work and bureaucracy can keep us from focusing on some of the main reason we do what we do for our career. Your technique works because I used to do the same thing by visiting colleges and classrooms. Another great get away for me was attending graduations.

Yasmine,
Break time used wisely is always a good technique for stress relief. Some people actually use is to only increase their emotional state. This is not a good habit. Your technique is the best for getting mentally prepared for the challenges of the day.

I work with Alzheimers and Dementia patients as a Registered Nurse. Between all the medicare paperwork involved and the nursing care for this type of patient, it can be very challenging juggling and balancing all my tasks that need to be completed. When I feel stressed, overwhelmed, I simply stop my paperwork and go outside for fresh air so that I can regroup. Other times, I go sit with the patients and enjoy their company interacting with them, laughing with them. This reminds me why I am in this profession and gives me the needed motivation to move foward and finish the task at hand.

Ways in which I’ve learned how to cope with workplace stress is to take a break. Whether it is a quick 3 to 5 minute bathroom break or leaving the workplace during my lunch break, I’ve learned the value of taking breaks. During the break time it allows me a moment to digress mentally from the stress that may be in the work environment. This also permits a breathier and subjects me to regrouping my thoughts before escalating to the “red” zone.

Deanna,

Listening is known to be 87% of communication. This open door policy encourages more communication. Being viable is always appreciated. I recently retired from a large school operation. When I see my colleagues they mention how they miss seeing me come by their offices.

Open door policy. I find with my staff and students that just having someone listen alleviates a lot of the stress. I also work very hard to instill and model teamwork. I constantly check in with my staff to find out how they are doing not only with work load, but daily stressors. I also use a lot of humor and calm responses with staff and students.

Denise,

Interesting way of relieving your stress. Sometimes when you can take that step back and enjoy the moment releases the chemistry that give you joy.

The program director whose office is across the hall from mine has a very stressful position. I have noticed that when he is struggling with the stress that he starts belting out an upbeat song and finds humor in the situation.
Just watching him do this relieves my stress. There is something great about a middle aged man belting out Kate Perry. It brings me back down as the smile is put on my face.
He has been influencial in helping me learn to deal with stress.

Marilyn,

It is good to vent with the right people and exercise always reduces stress. Both are healthy activity. Especially when you are with close colleagues.

Raphael,

It is a goodmidea to have place employees can call their retreat. It is used for getting things off their chest.

i have suggested that the company offer some kind of relaxation room for the team to sit in quiet and relax and to destress

I have found a get a few people here at work together in the afternoon and we walk around the building that we work in. Some times people need to vent other times no one says a word. After going around the building once, twice some times more, we all feel better for the rest of our day.I also think we are more productive after our walk.
