How to approach a new class

Being new to the teaching industry this course definitely helped me in seeing new ways to approach a new class. It also helped me to see different ways that I can start a class and different teaching methods that I can use when entering the room. I enjoyed learning this course! It helped me get another insight in how everyone learns in different ways. The Harvard learning videos were very helpful!

Basics for classroom instruction

Alot of good common sense information included in ED 101.

Flipped Classroom

My goal in my classes is to engage students and continue to develop an active learning environment. I find that simply lecturing can be boring. Following this course I plan to use videos and reading assignments so the students can come to class prepared for an activity. We will then have discussions to build up on the pre-class learning. If I'm being honest completely flipping the classroom worries me as I have listened to students complain about "teaching themselves" I now need to balance that.

Training insight

This training gave me needed tools for teaching and helping students to acheive success and goals.

Training

This was a very beneficial support tool. It presented concepts that I wasn't familiar with and provided teaching strategies that I am interested in utilizing.

Showing Videos

Always ensure videos are no more than 15 minutes and then expand on videos and conduct an exercise relating to the videos.

New Instructor

I am a new intructor and am nervous but very excited to start my first class. This course has provided ways to stay organized and confident with my course. I plan to implement what I have learned here with my small group first and work my way up to my larger classes. After this term is over I believe I will have a better understanding of successful intructing. Then I believe I can take another course and continue to learn how to improve my new career for myself and for my students.

Great Class

This was great. I learned so much.

Old dog and tricks

The more varied and paced the presentation of the content the higher rate of retention.  Also experience is the best teacher.  Always be willing to try something new.

ED 101

Great introductory course.

ED101

This was a great course for a new instructor. I learned some great ideas & others were re-inforced.

Lessons Learned (ED 101)

As someone new to the field of academic teaching, this course helps me to understand what is expected in delivering success and hope to any students I am fortunate enough to teach.  I now get the see the "other side" I so often criticized and have gained a new perspective of what instructors are responsible for.  I tip my hat to those who have a passion for teaching and instructing.  It isn't easy, but can be very rewarding.

I plan to take the information given in this course and apply it to become a better instructor everyday.  It is a… >>>

Permanently Improved Teaching Techniques

All my career I participate, as a student or an instructor, in various courses and classes, with an important experince and teaching skills. Since I have started this programme I understood I am still learning new tricks!

I am confident I will do a good job teaching!

Teaching in Romania

I have started this year (2017-2018) teaching Security Studies, on a part time basis, at the "Petru Maior" University in Targu Mures, Romania.

It si not the first time I am doing this, but now I am working with Genration Y students and is challanging. I will continu to perfect miself and my teaching tecniques as aften as possible.

It is going to be challanging beause the University doesn't have the resources and the knowledge that JSOU and other US Universities have!

But we are going to get there!

Professional Development

A grat basic refresher course.

flipping your classroom

This was a very interesting, i enjoyed the lesson and looking forward to flipping some of my class.

Challenges

The hardest Challenges that I have encountered is teaching hands on lab with students that are left handed. Everything that I present is from the right hand prosective. Its hard to present the other side. this is where smaller groups of students are teamed together to observe a demo and work together to learn from each other. Meaning have a group of students that have in common the left hand approach.

E101

I plan to develop a more specific learning plan for next session.
