Nervous on instructors part as well as that of the students. The ice-breaker for me is after I introduce myself, it is the time for student's to introduce themselves to me AND other students.

Adult students learn from each other. A difficult concept introduced by the instructor may be better understood by one student if another student restates it. Group exercises are a plus in the learning experience and can be a lifesaver for the instructor.

First day jitters

I am a new instructor this year and even though I have taught for almost a year I still get that nervousness because I have new students every term. I hope that they welcome me as my past students have. I give a very detailed syllabus and we go over everything so we have an understanding. By the end of the class I am usually calm and know how my students are going to be.
