Testing for the Development of Writing Proficiency

I can only presume that most educators would agree how important it is to improve student writing. So then, I would like to provoke educator interest in methods or systems that assess a domain that actually falls in nontraditional or nonformulated test-taking context.

So, what are the best test construction methods (i.e. a mixture of multiple choice, true false and essay, or majoring on one area)? Also, is there a preferred order? (i.e. T/F first??)

Helping a Student That Reads at a Third Grade Level

I have a student who admits she only reads at a third grade level. I am having a hard time keeping her motivated. I've tried working with her individually to help her with the material as she reads it and I've offered some local resources to help with overall reading ability. She doesn't appear to want any help other than finding someone to read the assignments to her. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Completion tests: objective or subjective

Completion tests were mentioned as being objective; wouldn't they be subjective instead? If not, how are completion tests objective?

I have found that it is important to ask many questions throughout class to ensure the students are understanding the topic and for class participation. Some students have extreme amonts of knowledge that they have gained or have and may not share unless questioned.

Forming questions

I am convinced about the importance in asking good questions. But my problem is this: I can't think of any good impromptu questions to ask (when I have time to create questions, that's different). So my questions are two-fold: 1. How can I grow in being able to ask better impromptu questions? 2. What has been the best method in creating questions? How do you come up with a "good" question?
