Understanding of Disabilities

This information was great. I now have a more knowledge on they different types of dissablities there are and how we as an higher educational institution handles the difference. I have now printed out all of the information so that I have the opportunity to reflect back at it as often as I need to.

Section 504 and ADA

Section 504 has helped many students receive the education they deserve. On a personal note my oldest son has several lables "ADD, ADHD and ODD" K-12 turned out to be a great experience for him as well as college. It is good for educators to know and understand these students are only looking for equality. They want to be able to graduate and obtain a position in their chosen career field. They are normal... They are just their normal. I enjoyed this section very much.

Separation of Duties Structure

Admissions --greets students, gives tour of school and answers questions regarding admissions criteria and policies of the school regarding attendance, dress code and schedule of classes. ----unable to proctor entrance exams or give "pointers" to potential students about the exam ----unable to answer "financial aid" questions Financial Aid --informs students of financial aid choices, discusses interest rate, default, deferment, forebearance and payment ----unable to take payments for registration fee or tuition Education --discusses Policies and Procedures (attendance, withdrawal, etc.) --evaluates transcripts ----unable to answer "financial aid" questions

Providing Disclosures

The three disclosures I recall are Completion and Graduation Rates, Loan Counseling (Entrance and Exits) and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Information.

Exit Counseling

Both inperson and on line..it is a requirement.

Managing Consumer Disclosures

Our campus insure that all students receive disclosures through providing them with a document that they sign listing eac disclosure.

Student Access to Course Materials

We have made it increasingly easy for students to access materials and distribution of books in a tamely manner. In fact we have student that have complemented how we effectively we get materials to them.

What is my role?

As an admissions representative, I know it is my role to treat every student with respect and answer every question with the correct answer, if I don't know the anwers I will find someone who does have the correct information. Also, I will bring each student to any section of the school so that they are given the appropriate information or assistance needed.

The Accommodation Process

The accommodation process is a must to properly assign each student, with a disability, the appropriate assistance they need. I hope to learn more in detail about how the procedure is filed and completed.

The Impact of Disability

Although the module was very informative, I feel as if we should take our responsabilities a step further or "to the heart". Each and every student deserves the upmost respect and assistance for the decision they made to commit to school and achieve their goals. Showing students we care and inform the students that we are here for them goes a long way, especially for any student who may have a disability.

Legal Obligations and Opportunities

The module was very informative and detailed about the laws and opportunites that students with disabilities qualify for. I feel it is of high importance that students with disabilities are aided these opportunities to accomplish any educational goal to have a successful future.

Students

What are some examples of staying in compliance while presenting salary information ??

Hello

Good day to you all and I wish you all the best.

Registrar/Unoffcial estimates of Credits

can the registrar perform unofficial estimates as to the students' transferability of credits? When will it be considered an Official one? I am an Admissions Representative.

Retention of records

what's the regulatory time to keep the student's records in file?

Admissions

How has the admissions practices have changed since the FERPA Act?

Burnout

What do you think can cause burnout in this sort of role?  How do we avoid it?

placements

The good thing about placements, yes the student get a job but our customer services is not done because the call to the employer keeps the college in good standing as a community education place. Placements are a win win for everyone.

audits

As I went through an audit I understood the connection of title IV funds and DOE. Making sure that the college is on top of its paper work. this information has given me more reason to make sure we stay compliant. Can a college be shut down for too many violations?

Keeping Supervisers in-Check

If you see supervisers doing things that may be on the edge of the policies/procedures, how do you broach the subject with them? I've never run into this but it seems like that could be an awkward discussion at the very least.
