Hi Rufino:
By consistently allowing students to have an idea of how they are doing in class, they have the chance to make changes in study habits as soon as possible. By doing this, they promote a more successful outcome for themselves by the end of the course.

I believe that it is beneficial to the class for them to receive their project or test grade as soon as possible...this allows the student to think back to the project or test taken for them to "remember" why they answered a certain question the way they did. Having the student wait even 48 hours for their results usually means that they have partially forgotten the test because their minds are now preoccupied with the new subject matter. The score itself will always be important however the adjustment of thought to the answers of the test or project is lost.
So that they can set personal goals, they can monitor their activity to see if they are on the right path or if they need to make some adjustments.
It is important to keep student informed of their status in class to let them know where they stand with their grades and to keep them engauge with the material. It will also show them the work that you put into keeping up with their assignments.
The same reason we need evaluations in the workplace. We need to know what we are doing correctly; and what we're doing incorrectly so we can make changes if need be.
Also, it eliminates the element of suprise and they student can relax and focus on the material and not about what grade they may/ may not have.
At my school, we do a mid-term eval. half way through our course. This is a very good way to motivate students and also give a sense of accomplishment to those that are doing very well. As a student, I would like to be aware of where I stand as far as my grade goes, so I feel like it shows them that you care about them and their grades too.
So that learners may gain bearings on where there are and what they need to focus on to gain points needed for a passing grade.
So that the student could try to improve if they want to pass the class
is important to keep students informed because it is ethical, is part of the course report on their progress and helps teachers get feedback on their performance and take personal action to improve learning in the event that this is not good

If I were a student I would be extremely unhappy if I got to midterm and found out I was in trouble. Students who care about hteir grades need time to fix anything that is not working for them. If their grade is good, they feel a sense of accomplishment and are encouraged to continue.
I always have a difficult time with this. The way our school is structure (policy wise), myself and someone else grades and then someone else enters them. I believe if we had some one who could take care of grading and entering at the same time, students would benefit by having a quicker turn around with there grades.
we want to keep them ingadge and if we dont they loose focus worring about there grades than become discourage, some times they even stop coming to school. we want to always keep them focus.

I feel it is important for the students to know your expectations. Reason being if you are uncertain of the instructors expectations how can you deliver the adequate information for them to learn. Also having an open session for questions at the end of your class.
