Organized and prepared to teach
Why is it important for an instructor to organized and prepared for each class?
JOE,
Of course respect is a two way street. But in either case, it has to be earned. We can do our job by valuing the students time through our preparation. Students can show their respect by dutifully completing their assignments, acting responsibly, and demonstrating a professional behavior.

I never gave it much thought however I have come to realize that I was missing an element as to why we should be prepared before class begins. the word I'm speaking about in RESPECT. respect for my students by being prepared . good enlightenment that I needed.
Jviveros,
Yeah, we really have only one chance to make a good first impression. And actually, we are role models, and students will tend to emulate what they see their instructor doing.

Having the class room clean and in order having hand outs ready to hand out makes a good impression on the student.
Pamela,
Right. The students time and focus should be on their studies. Our responsibility is to be as prepared and organized so the student feels our attention and commitment to their success is present.

Students will look to the intructor as the "expert" in that specialty. Failure to be prepared greatly takes away from the Instructor's credibility.
Sherry,
Of course, students value their time especially when they consider they are paying for that time to be helpful to them in some future job setting. Keeping the tonme of the class focused on the eventual outcome helps keep student engaged and participating.

Stacy,
Students are perceptive about most everything an instructor does, perhaps because we are in front of them as the class facilitator most of the time. As you imply, our role, actions, and behavior are key to demonstrate our professionalism, preparedness, and degree of organization.

Being prepared for a class helps the students to see that the instructor is well organized and prepared and they should be as well. Being prepared for a class set the tone for the class and allow the student to see that you respect them and their time.
I am a role model for my students in the field and I want that to be a positive role. I do not want to give the impression that being disorganized and unprepared is acceptable.
John,
When students appear each day for class and see all needed resources are presents, copies made, classroom in order, that does convey time and effort has gone into the competent delivery of course material.

A good progression to the class creates a better learning environment it shows the students you care
Dennis,
Just like students who are well prepared for a test, it really doesn't matter too much what you ask them, if they're prepared, they can answer most questions. We have the advantage of knowledge, training, education, and work experience, so preparation should comprise an organized effort to lay out what students need to know.

I agree if the instructor is prepared for the class it seems to flow better. The students will still have plenty of questions, and if the instructor is prepared for the questions, it will allow the students to progress quicker.
wow that make so much sense not only look like you prepared for the class but the less stress on you would show up in your Presidion
Emad,
I think knowing what's coming up beforehand also helps when students have questions. Only someone who has prepared knows what all is included.

To be prepared and organized well before lecture is crucial, as you will understand and digest all aspects of the knowledge you are transferring to the students and let them feel that you was honest enough to spend that time for their benefit by supplying them with that knowledge in a clear and simplified form.
Jennifer,
Regarding avoiding jumping around, good preparation and planning does well if the instructor sticks to the plan. One idea to manage the time is to try to put the most important information first in the lesson. This takes preparation because the flow of information usually requires a certain order. Nonetheless, preparing for 75% of the class time with "need-to-know" material allows the remaining 25% of class for the "nice-to-know".

Being organized and prepared for each class shows the students that you care about them and have taken the time to decide what they will learn during class and how they will learn it. It is also important to keep you from jumping from topic to topic and ensuring that there is enough information to fill the class time.
