If time allows, I like to make a Power point presentation as well as giving a handout for the students to make notes.
when i select media to use in the class room it needs to be intresting for the student and get the point across. that is some times hard to do but when i am play a video i have found it good to stop at differnt point and make sure there arnt any questions and discuss the information they are receiving. i dont let media teach for me instead i let it ad in my teaching.
Hi Flavio:
Utilizing mutiple media almost always adds flaor and variety to a lesson - therefore, more likely to be remembered. Getting the students involved somehow will instill the best retention of information.

Powerpoint presentations are great in presenting topic generalities or when in need of a sequenced animation. When I want to build a topic with student interaction, my preference goes to the white board. With multicolors, it can become a crisp image for the students to relate & take notes.
Hi Amanda:
Good point about having too many PPT's all at the same time. Can be quite self defeating because after a while, student could begin to just tune out. Thinking about what method will work best is a terrific idea and will always produce better outcomes.

I think that one of the main reasons for choosing what form of media to use would be the class material. I teach alot of computer classes, so the media that I choose is PowerPoint or just showing the students the material using the software that they are using for the class. Another reason would be figuring out what media would keep the students most interested. If they have five classes and all classes use PowerPoint, the students will usually become bored rather quickly.
mainly for students' attention and some students are learning materials by PPT.
Morgan, I would be interested in knowing how the live cams work out for your class? I also like your suggestion about posting the students work on the portal so other students can have access. What demos do you do and what has been the most successful of do all classes differ and you meet the needs of each one. That is how I would be. Each class has its own dynamics and we as instructors have ti recognize that and make the necessary changes. Thanks for the response. It helps a lot. Sharon
I agree with this and even during my demos, I always have prepared questions to throw out ot the group so that they can remain alert.
Since I do a lot of demo, I use the live camera as well as some PowerPoint slides to help the students add to their learning. I also place all of my material including recipes on their online portals so that they can have immediate access to them.
Response to Lori, I agree that students learn differently. I am a visual learner and I seem to grasp content much better that way. Being open to the different learning styles of students allows us as instructors to reach out to all learning types, which provides for a successful learning forum. Sharon
Power Points is my choice, it's easy to put together, you can include as many picture as you want. I remember Picture speak more than a thousan words. It's very effective work for my subject, since I teaches Carving and sculpting.

My reasons have to do with effectiveness. I think that what you select should be conducive to you effectively communicating the subject matter as much as possible.
THE MEDIA IS AVALIABLE THAT DAY,SO WE USE IT.
Student needs are the main reason for choosing any form of media. I am very comfortable with a variety of media, but I tend to focus on media that captures the attention of my students and keeps them engaged.
Unfortunately I have little to no choice, the circulium is pre developed and I have to work with whats provided, Is this the same for most technical schools?
I select media type based on what will best get across the points I need to teach. I don't believe in 'all the glitz and glamour.' I rarely use powerpoints as I lived many years where there was intermittent electricity and you always needed a Plan B. I know how to do them ... and am an editor and publisher as well ... so understand color, font, amount per slide, etc.
My main media type is charts and posters and the whiteboard, with handouts. My posters, charts and board work use a lot of color ... and patterns ... emphasizing in another color what is different. In teaching a language, this really helps. Also, I am a bit 'off the wall' when I teach and my students can't wait to see what I will do next. Thus, I maintain their attention using visual, auditory, and writing in group projects, thereby pairing stronger learners with weaker learners. I make sure that my classes are fun and my students don't even realize how much they are learning.
The choice would be to keep the student focused and engaged. It could be used to present information in a different format to hold the interest of the student.
Hi Manuel:
Variety will definitely help students learn. Activities that require students to participate lend themselves to better learning outcomes.

I use it as an alternative source of instruction. But it has to apply to the class lecture or discussion of that day. This way to students can view and learn from a different modality of instruction.
