Often a personal experience story will generate good questions from students and a beneficial class discussion.

The delivery method must go with your personality. If I am like a fish out of water because I am uncomfortable talking about or demonstrating something my students are going to know it and I lose credibility with them.

I have a strong, outgoing personality. This works well with my outgoing students, but is hard for my quieter students. I try to use a variety of delivery methods including some traditional lecture, group research or discussion activities, and because I am a Humanities instructor, arts based activities. They paint, sew, build, etc. I rarely use Power Points, except to show works of art. I find that students become too attached to watching the Power Point, and cease to pay attention to me or each other.

Instructors have to be comfortable with the way in which they deliver course content. Not all delivery methods will work for an instructor. It important to remember, though, that students also have a preferred way to receive information, so delivery methods have to be varied enough so that students can effectively receive the information.

Personality plays a big role. If students like your personality, the students will like the instructor. If student likes you they will learn faster and be better students. The students will lok forward to coming to school.

True--when I stress a point my voice elevates as a way of letting them know this is IMPORTANT.

Personality plays a HUGE role in the selection of delivery methods. It, probably more than anything else will determine which delivery method you choose. It will depend on what methods you are comfortable with and can sustain class interest by using.

My personality prompts me to try to add humor and interactive activities whenever possible. I try to substitute something interactive to replace a large amount of lecture whenever possible. For example, instead of talking about how to handle conflict in a communications course, I might create a conflict scenario that requires students to utilize skills we have briefly discussed prior.

I like to walk alongside my students--assisting them in the learning process. This has played well into my decision to focus primarily on the online environment.

I agree, if you are yourself the students will know that you are sincere with the. If and when the students know you are sincere with them they will learn to trust you.

I like to interact with my students. My goal is to help them learn as much from me as possible. So I go into the classroom with the idea that these students will have an opportunity to have all my knowledge about the subject before the course is done. I am upbeat and positive and try to be as receptive as possible. And I like to do lots of demonstrations, so the students can learn "hands on."

Sometimes incorporating your own personality into the lecture can be effective in delivering the material as long as it suits the course contents. Of course, it does depend on your personality.

Hi Lina:
That's true. Also, if the instructor is passionate about the topic, this enthusiasm can translate to the student, making the topic that much more interesting.

An instructor's personality plays an important role in the rapport developled with students in the classroom. Students need to feel some connection to be engaged in the instruction.

Hi Simon:
Yes. Instructors should have a balance of passion for the topic, but keep emotional interests to a minimum so we don't distract.

Regards, Barry

Hi Michelle:
Exactly - also, instructors should be mindful of having too many emotional interests in one topic, doing so may distract the student.

Regards, Barry

Personality has everything to do with your class's willingness to learn from you. They must trust that you are there for them. I find a balance of strictness and humor works best for me.

Because of the positions we hold s surg tech, we have stories to tell. The students appreciate the stories and it's because they are able to make the connection about what is happening. We are fortunate to be able to help students become "sponges" in order to help in the absorption process.

It is one of the most important factors in delivery. If you understand your students and know how to deliver in a way that is interesting and confortable, they will be more likely to receive.

Personality does play a part in how the information is delivered to the students. I tend to be on the shy side outside of the classroom. When I am in front of the class I turn into this animated being and get excited about the information I am imparting. I have enjoyed my professional life as a Registered Nurse and pass on real-lfe situations to the students. I then utilize this information and have students come up with solutions to these (case studies) problems.
