First class preparation
How do you or will you prepare for your first class meeting of a new course?
Having gone over the material enough times myself that I have a clear and precise delivery of expectations and course content for the students. Ensure I have any handouts and material I want distributed ready. Making the first day a perfect example of what is expected for the remainder of the course is very important. Asking other instructors what the common "first day questions" are and having the answers to them.
I will go over my power piont and have the training aids all set up proir to class. Then I will greet my students at the door as they arrive. finally i will get plenty of rest the night before my class.
Hi Lance,
I like your way of preparing for class. You are ready and your students know it. This sets the stage for a positive class where much learning is going to occur.

Hi David,
Three simple words that say it all. Being prepared lets you as an instructor enjoy the teaching process and engage your students in learning. You are being paid to share content about your field while working with the next generation of individuals that are going to enter your field. This is a wonderful opportunity to leave a legacy.

First off I would go over my plan for the day go over my introduction and objectives, Go to sleep early, Come to work early and set up my class with props and write my objectives on the board, Greet all my students at the door make sure they are ready for class and say good morning.
Prepare! Prepare! Prepare! Know the material inside and out. Get excited about the topic you are about to teach. Find large props or pictures to be passed around the room. Be extra early to set-up room, go over notes, get the power point presentation ready etc... and stand outside the classroom door 15 minutes before class starts to greet people before entering.
Hi Kenny,
Great attitude about how to prepare for the class. You are setting the stage for learning success by being excited about the content and the opportunity you have to share your knowledge about this area.

I will arrive early and ensure the room is properly organized and all the necessary tools are present. Having my information organized and ready will allow me to then focus on the students as they arrive. Rendering a cheerful greeting and proper salutations to both students and staff will help to set an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation. After an introduction of myself and the course, we then get to know each other through introductions, then hit the ground running. I want my students to feel that what i have for them is good and we are both excited about getting it from me to them. I want them to know that there is a world of good out there and i'm here to help them prepare to go out and get all that they can.
Hi Ralph,
Good to hear. Keep up the good work and development of your instructional abilities.
Gary
very good info, i find it very helpful reading your material and applying in in my lectures.
Definatly be early and have all course books and outlines ready. Make sure everything that is sopposed to work does so that there are no suprises.
Absolutly. My success in teaching is determined my prepardness before the class or labs ever start. It is common on the weekends for me to read and memorized my course book chapter before my upcoming lecture. Then I read and understand my textbook material so I can answer almost any question that arises during lecture.
Hi John,
Good steps. When the students do arrive you can be there greeting confident in your planning and preparation efforts. You know you are going to be able to teach that day with full confidence in your efforts.

Having a plan is critical to the success of anything. An instructor will only have one chance to make a great impression. Knowing the course subject material is essential to gain the students confidence in my ability to provide them with the tools necessary to succeed. I have as many training aids available as possible to peak their interest in the course. I also have everything I need to give them ready prior to the class start. Then make them feel I want them there and I am genuinely interested in their success.
I would review the material to make sure I am up to speed on any changes or new information . I will have all training aids ready for the class, and any notes that I need ready for the presention. Then I would be ready to great the class when they arrive. When class starts I would introduce myself explain my backround and explain course objectives and schudle
i would go over lesson in hand over and over
i would get a good night sleep get alot of amo for the lesson as fillers
and i will subject a ice breaker for r new technitians and also go over my sop`s
and set my rules
Give my self a clear understanding of the subject at hand, the end goal of the subject and find ways to tie the subject together in a way that keeps them interested in the information. Plan it in a way that will keep questions in there head that they will look for answers for through out the course. After getting that down, then I try and find the best way to make it exciting, bring some pattion into the subject matter. Getting to know the students and seeing what they are into seems to really help on knowing how to keep there attention. Dooses!
Since perception is reality, having the class ready for the students is necessary for the perception of competence. I get ready for new courses buy making sure I know the information that I will be discussing. Also having the material ready for the students when they come into the room so we can start as soon as the class begins. Research out extra material pertaining to the class room material for that course.
Have full understanding and knowledge of subject, be energetic and excited to see my students, and have all paperwork, reference materials and training aids ready for the course.
