My instructional style is reflective of my more than 30 years of business management experience. I am very familiar with the content of the courses that I teach. To illustrate a point I am trying to make in class, I will use an example from my years in the business world. For some subjects, I prefer the lecture approach but for others I use a more "hands-on" method. My accounting classes are very "hands-on".
I enjoyed this module, because I believe it comprehensively offers skill building for improving ourselves as instructors. Having a personal development plan that is shared with the Dean of Faculty and actively worked, discussed and provided with feedback is a critical first step. Then I try to incorporate time in the field actively working and professional organizations along with the text and lesson plans to provide innovative examples and contemporary issues in which to discuss the subject being studied.
Hi John,
Thank you for sharing this information. You have a global view of how you can increase your instructional skills even more. One of the things you mentioned, student feedback is critical if we ask them for feedback in way that enables us to really "hear" what they are saying so that we can incorporate their suggestions into our next course.

Hi Nicole,
You are right about your approach building the connection between what they are studying and real life. They will start to see how the knowledge and skills they are developing will transfer to other settings and help the achieve their career goals.

have adequate knowledge ,proper projection of personal image as a model and bringing your information to the knowledge of the students
Hi James,
Way to go in pacing your delivery. These methods lets you control the pace and flow of the class so you can keep your students engaged in the learning process to the maximum degree.

Hi Lisa,
Good professional development plan. It is fun to learn and through the taking of these courses you are learning not only the most current content in your field but experiencing how other instructors teach. You can observe and learn from how they are conducting the class and you can use this information back in your own setting.
Gary
Hi Earnest,
What methods do you use to identify the learning styles of your students? Do you use an assessment or is it based upon your experience as an educator?
Thanks.
Gary
I agree with what has been previously noted about communication issues, i.e. students not paying attention, hearing only certain aspects of the material, etc. I often try to capture my students attention by tying the material to areas of interest and/or what is applicable to the field they are going to. I have been able to re-enagage my students by using these linkages, and I think it helps them apply what they have learned to real-life situations as well.
Dr. Meers,
Techniques that would be useful would be observing other Instructors (which luckily for me I do frequently at this school) along with continued development (readings, etc.) in regards to understanding how adult learners learn to adapt my personal style more effectively. I also find that feedback from my students, whether it be written or verbal is also very important and useful. John Eliassen
I facilitate through demonstration. Mini lectures are studded throughout class time to reinforce concepts and techniques.
I enjoy taking continuing ed classes related to my field. The classes are not only informative by exhibiting new techniques but they are also taught by respected experts. Part of my new teaching style is a derivative of several of these chefs.
I enjoy taking continuing ed classes that relate to my field. It only keeps me abrest of trends I may have missed but they are usally taught by very respected experts.
Know your students. All the instruction in the world can't change how your students learn. Once you understand their learning process and how they see you at the front of the classroom, the teaching will be much more effective.
My instructional style varies in accordance to the learning style of my students. As for techniques: study, practice, apply, evaluate.
Hi Michelle,
You are fortunate to be in a career field with such high visibility. Your students come in with a set of expectations that you have the opportunity to help them to achieve. Keep up the good work.
Gary
Hi Lou,
You have a good understanding of how you want your class to go and how you are going to accomplish your goals. I am sure your students look forward you classes as a result of your attitude and planning.
Gary
Hi Daniel,
Thank you for sharing these two examples of how you were able to customize the delivery and content of math to meet the needs of your students. Your creativity is to be commended. Through observation and inquiry you were able to identify just how you needed to go about making the right decisions in selecting your methodology.
Gary
All four techniques listed in the course.
one of so many ways would be aks your colleges wwhat works best for the and try to apply it, and see what works best,
