The learning environment plays a key concept in the role of the instructional process. If there are to many distracts, interruptions, or the learning environment is not set-up to suit the course at hand the students will not feel the logistics of the course.

The learning environment plays a key role in allowing the students and instructor to successfully communicate. By setting up a comfortable, functional, learning environment students and instructor can act as a team in accomplishing course objectives.

The environment can effect the instructional process and the learning process. Student participation can either help the class stay on task or take the train off track. If a learning environment is condusive to the instructor being able to encourage participation, encourage learning, and engage the student then instructing a course will be easier. However, a distrupted or unstable environment not only causes distraction to the student but to the instructor as well.

I definitely see that point. I also think the student should also dress to their part as well. This I find will subject them to the most realistic scenario prior to arriving at their "job".

I agree with Tram Tran. If an environment is positive in the classroom, this allows for much more focus from the students

I feel if a place is cold or intimidating or one sided it causes the students to become reclusive. One way I try to better the environment is to perform icebreakers in the very beginning and randomly throughout the course. I've found this allows everyone to have a voice, builds relationships and if successful the students will seem "safer".

Catina,
I agree with your statement about helping students to see the value of education. I work a lot in developing countries where there is not organized education going on and the loss of human potential is great. When we set up educational opportunities for students the valuing of education is tremendous. They see the value related to having knowledge and skills to help themselves and others. I wish many of our students to see this as well.

I remember going to grade school and high school and being miserable, sweaty, hot and ill-tempered for at least two months every year.

You couldn't have gotten me to learn anything during those months. Sir conditioning was one of the biggest improvements in the education environment here in the midwest.

A positive, comfortable, and engaging environment plays a critical role for teaching and learning.

I like to ask questions of students and encourage multi layered discussions. This improves the overall communication and comfort level for the instructor and student.

That's really unfortunate that students would register for college to receive money back, opposed to seeking the real benefit of an education. Money comes and goes but learning and growth stays forever.

Thas is the baseline of the learning process. The instructor needs to create the right learnig invenroment for the specific class

Learning environment plays a big role in the instructional. Without it, student will not be able to focus. He will feel distracted. He will not be able to think critically, will not be able to solve problems, will not be able to work at full potential. Out of all the factors, this is the foremost factor for proper learning to take place.

Tammy,
So true. They see how they fit into the class and can get comfortable with the other students and you the instructor. This serves as the foundation for the development of respect and rapport.

The learning enviroment plays an important part of the learning process. If the students feel comfort in the their environment than they be able to be open to learn

I believe it plays a very important role because it is always easier for the instuctor if they are sorrounded by tools they can use to teach. Humans are very visual about learning and I think the more resources you have in your teaching environment the easier the student will learn.

The learning environment plays a large role in the students learning outcome. Students who feel comfortable in their environment tend to be more active in the classroom. They feel more comfortable asking question of their peers and instructor. In turn these students tend to be more successful in class and in the workforce.

James,
Comfort is so important because it enables students to settled into the course and focus on the content being shared. From there on it is a building process in terms of learning.

I think if the students are comfortable with their instructors and their inviroment it helps with their learning process yet some students require a different approach to their learning process.

Anthony,
I agree. Just this week I have been dealing with such a situation. For years all of us instructors have had our classroom arranged in a seminar format. This facilitates more interaction and discussion between and with our students. The school hired a new janitor (apparently they are hard to find) and he will only clean the classrooms if they seats are in rows. He took a picture of the classroom with the seats in rows and posted on the wall in my classroom. It is his way or the highway. We instructors appealed to our Dean and was told that we will follow the wishes of the janitor. Guess who has the power? So now we have a janitor of 1 week telling us instructors of many years how we will arrange our classrooms and he has the support of the college administration. And, we wonder why education is having all of the problems it does. Who are we there for? So I can understand your comments and appreciate them even more after the week I have had.

Seth,
Good point and one we need to remember as we start a new course.
