you want to keep the students interested in the class, changing it up is always a good way to keep the students in a good learning frame of mind
So that you reach as many students as you can during your time together. And hope the whole class got something out of what you were teaching.
Jon (Jack),
Right you are. Learners like variety in the instructional delivery as well as change of pace. So the more of both you can introduce the more you will have them engaged.

It keeps the students from becoming complacent and bored. Varied delivery keeps the students fresh while addressing the variety of learning styles.
I agree with a variety of instructional delivery. Not all students learn in the same way. Some of them need to read the material, some do better listening, others are better learners with watching videos or even hands-on techniques. I try to mix a little of all styles of delivery every day. This keeps them from getting bored and my intention is to reach each student with their own individual learning preference each class.
By offering a variety of instructional deliveries, retention of the information seems to stick better. I've been using hands-on at the computers, critical thinking discussions, lecture, and videos. I also give real life scenario's and let the class discuss the issue!
Reinaldo,
Yes, they do and as a result we need to plan our instruction to be offered in a variety of different ways.

Everyone learns differently. Audditory learners, visual learners, etc. By offering different methods of delivery you will reach more students.
Lauren,
It is important to offer variety in your instructional delivery for the reason you state. Reinforcement of content occurs through repetition and application. So the more we can do this in our teaching the more our students will retain in terms of content.

Delivering the material in a variety of methods will help to reenforce a topic or section of the course with the students. Even though each student will have one way that they learn best, coming at a topic from 2-3 different angles will maximize the ability for the student to grasp the concept and retain the information.
Since students have different learning styles , they learn in different ways .It is important for the teacher to understand their needs and try to accomodate them in various ways .Using different dilivery method ensures that teachers have used various methods for students to understand the material according to their learning abilities and styles.
Students enter a classroom with differing abilities, needs and experiences. Everything from language proficiencies, learning styles, background knowledge, eagerness to learn, and other factors can vary widely within a single classroom. Regardless of their individual differences, however, students are expected to master the same concepts, principles, and skills. Helping all students succeed in their learning is a major challenge that requires innovative thinking. Varied instruction does not happen by accident. It requires planning, commitment, and acknowledgment of the fact that diverse abilities, experiences, and interests can have a positive and tremendous impact on student learning. This type of learning atmosphere can be considered a "win/win" for all concerned.
Michaelle,

Offering a variety of instructional delivery methods in class not only helps maximize the attention span of students, but also enables the message/lesson to reach a greater percentage of the class. The ability of being able to capture the attention of the audience is critical to teaching as it amplifies the message to be received and interpreted to the optimal level as intended by the instructor. Considering the variety of learing styles and abilities that students are accustomed to, it is crucial to offer a variety of delivery methd in order to increase their competency of the related material.
Offering varied instructional delivery techniques helps to keep the learners engaged and anticipating "what's next" for each meeting. It also offers instructors a way to think outside the box by providing something new to present to the students. Lastly, and definitely most important, a varied instructing approach will allow students of all learning styles to be engaged in the learning process.
Bradford,

Providing different methods of learning ensures that the best possible chance of retention is possible. We typical lecture/discuss new material and methods, then present an example(video/youtube) of the subject matter. We then present the students with a demonstration of the new skills and provide them with a lab to put those new skills to use and practice. Many times a student that didn't understand the lesson verbally will pick it up on the video or demo. The students that picked up the concept on the lecture will enhance their understanding while watching the demo and performing the lab. By doing this we keep the students attention and reinforce the subject matter several times very quickly.
Lisa,
Students like variety of delivery and change of pace so the more you can offer both the more engagement you are going to have with your students. Also, this is where the creative part of teaching comes in because you get to try new and different ways of communicating your message.
