Using different teaching methods that allow the student to get motivated and interested in the contents of each class

I provide power point lecture, hand outs of power points, group projects, the board, and hands on learning.

I have begun to, no matter what class I'm teaching, begin each term with a discussion on how the course is relevant to their future careers. I bring in job advertisements that state specifically some of the skills we learn in that class. One thing that really sticks out to me from this module is the attention span of a student. I had no idea it was so short. It makes me want to re-evaluate how long my lectures are! I like the idea of mini-lectures instead.

I use story telling.

You can accomodate different learning styles in the classroom by using varied delivery methods. Switching from lecture, to demonstration, to small group work, to hands-on experience will touch on multiple learning styles so that multiple needs are addressed.

Learning my students styles of learning and building a rapport.

One way is to try to learn their specific personalities, and therefore their learning styles, etc. by interacting with them multiple times prior to your term/ class that you are teaching them, if possible, and tailor your lesson plan as much as you can to facilitate their individual/ group learning needs.

It is important to provide students with information that will enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for their area of study. Therefore, the way the course content is presented is as important as the content itself.

I simply try to mix it up and use a variety of delivery methods. Students have to understand that everyday and every topic might not be perfect for their teaching preferences but over the course of the term hopefully all learning styles will be satisfied.

To make the coarse relevant I will co-relate the content with any experience I had in the past and tell them about it. I also use current events if aplicable in teaching. Use a lot of jokes and make them laugh and get them focused on the topic once again.

This is the best chance to capture the interest and attention of the students

There are 8 identifiable learning styles. By bringing in at least 5 per lesson I have met the majority of learning styles and can then assess which are the most effective for the content

I find making the course content personal to the atudents and real life situations thst sre relavent to the topic. Open discussion often gives me an insight to their needs, so I can bring the course content to the achievable level by their nearning needs.

Hi Mazen,
Good instructional planning. By knowing learning preferences as you mention you have a base upon which to build your instructional delivery.

First I give them an assessment to learn more about their learning styles. And then I try to use lecture, case studies, group discussions, videos, study guides and quizzes to fit with their learning styles. Students can then learn in many different ways plus it eases the burden on me--the instructor.

Hi Betty,
Good plan. I am sure you are going to have results with this approach and greater engagement from your students.
Gary

I plan to especially shorten my lecture time and to continue using different methods especially the case studies. This seems to keep them engaged and on point.

I try to use a variety of delivery methods, depending on what is to be covered that day. Not only does this allow me to use the best method for the day's materials, it changes it up for the students. They don't know what to expect, so they look forward to class to see what will happen.

Hi Linda,
All great teaching strategies. Thanks for sharing them with us. The reporting out after working together as a group is always a highlight for students. They get to see how other react to the solutions they have come up with and that reinforces their learning.

By incorporating as many learning techiniques as possible in a given time frame I am giving the opportunity for all of my students to learn.
