Hi Kenneth- You have put together a good instructional strategy that addresses all the learning styles. Great work! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Every 1st phase class that I teach, I find that it is very needed to use all instructional techniques, Most of the new students are in differant levals of lack of knowledge and using all techniques, auditory, visual, and demos are very helpful in getting them to learn.

Steve, each class day as I introduce material to the students that is new and different material for them, I ask for questions, disassemble components in front of them so they see and feel the component, and help them understand how each component works. As I receive questions, I use them to direct their attention to the component and its placement in the system. Further, I take the group to the lab and demonstrate the function and purpose of each component part.

Hi Daniel- Welcome to ED 103! Realistically it's just not possible to use every style in every class. Just try to mix it up as much as possible. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career!

I try to use all the learning styles in class and lab if i can but some times you run out of time given the time it takes to cover the lesson or lab task and complete them.

I first try to identify my students and then immediately try to get thru to the Kinesthetic learner. This is how I personally learn, and it seems to be the most difficult ones to get thru too.

Hi Chris- welcome to Ed 103! Do you use visual auditory and tactile delivery methods before you start to loose your students?

Best Wishes - Susan

When tring to use all the learning styles I find may not all be neccessary unless I start to lose them. Then I use group or hands on to bring thier interest and learning back into focus. So I guess I use all the different styles if I see that I am losing them.

No two people learn the same way. So we have to use everything in the tool box to make sure that they understand the basics, concepts, procedures that apply to the lesson plan that is being used that day.For me is when the students start electronic repair orders. They have to follow writen as well as going into the program that they will be using and watching a turtorial on how to start out when doing repair orders.

Hi Richard - you have definitely got it all going on! Great work! Best wishes - Susan

Much of the material I teach is set up for all learning styles. In Basic Electrical, the students complete on-line web based courses where they must read through material, observe animated and video examples and show competancy by taking short quizes about the subject matter. Once completed, I continue with a lecture that includes visual examples that go into more detail about the subject matter. To bring it all together, the students must perform several hands-on activities that are designed to support the concepts being taught.

I try to use as many as possible every time I have to produce new info to the students.

An example is when I am teaching Ignition chapter. I first give a brief introduction which includes a power point film strip. Then I have them read the respective chapter in their Automotive Service book answering the questions in the back of the chapter. Then I give the main lecture which includes more filmstrips and demonstrations on testing the components. Then the students have the main activity where they must individually test the components within small groups of no more than 3.

Perfect James! Your delivery is reaching all the learning styles - best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Using all the learning styles will certainly help you reach all your students and their different learning styles. I will use the power point for the visual learner and also require them to have their course book to use if they are more of a written type learner. Having them write notes from the white board can help re-enforce the material. Group discussion can also help those that would like to hear what their peers have to say based upon the lecture information and finally some type demonstration with a hands on approach to master the task.

In course 17, the basic electrical courses that students come into typically do not have any idea of what is taking place. And knowing this are tried to incorporate all learning styles that students might have. A good example of this is before we go out to lab I will go through the PowerPoint, demonstrate procedures, have students do the procedure and then have those students show others on how to do the same procedure and give help whenever needed. This type of process seems to work out quite well for me to lecture first, then do the PowerPoint, do some practical and then call upon different students to show me how to do the procedure and then have them show others.

I like to use all learning styles when i teach I teach a brake cource i talk about the topic explain how it works and ask for in put from my class I then send them into the tech manuales to find how the book wants the proceedure done and to look up specs the next is my favorite I use toy trucks to show how it works and have them draw a scematic i also draw on the board to bring the point home Then at last I let them out to the lab to learn at there pace with a lap top drawing let them touch and have a self discovery of the material

Hi Ernest - Welcome to ED 103 - As for teaching to the learning styles - you have definitely got it going on!! Best wishes - Susan

Hi Charles - That's a great way to teach to the learning styles. I am sure that your students are involved and particpating in your classes. Great job! Susan

Steve, In the three very different classes I teach, I think that I am able to use all types of different styles. While I have the power point runing behind me, I use the board to draw examples or formula explaining what I'm talking about. Also I pass oout examples of sub componants so that they can actually handle what is being explained. Finally I give them a list of questins with time to research and answer in advance then randomly ask each table of three students for their answer. Then I allow the others to comment on the answer. This seems to work well. Chuck Peters
