during the course that i regularly instruct it is common to use the power point in combination with hand drawn pictures on the white board, we also read the chapter & answer the ASE style questions afterwards along with passing around parts & demonstrations of how each unit works

Hi Brad - it isn't essential that you address every style in every class; just try to do as much as you can over the sourse of the semester or quarter. Best wishes - Susan

I don't know if I get them all in one lecture but , at the end of a day or 6 hour lecture with labs in between I will have touch all areas of learning. To keep the class interesting to all I must give each learning attention. This is a daily oppertunity for me.

Steve during phase 6 on the drive axleportion of the course i use all aspects of training from the ASE questions to handouts to parts that are passed around plus power p[oint & verbal lecturinmg

Hi James- Welcome to Ed 103! You seem to be addressing all the learning styles - well done! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

all of the learning styles are used during instruction of cylinder head flow bench in the classroom. I also use the white board, I draw what I am talking about and compare to the power point, it is very effective.

Hi Adam- Welcome to ED 103! From what you describe, your delivery techniques are addressing all the learning styles. Keep up the great work! Best wishes - Susan

All the time. The students will read a web course on the computer. While they are reading the courses have animations to help them see how things work. Then we will have a discussion on what they went over, with the help of power point & demonstrations. Then they will go out to lab & put their hands on the training aids to help drive the point home.

Hi Errol - Welcome to ED 103! You are lucky that your classes are designed to use the various delivery styles, usually the instructor must find a way to achieve that balance. Best wishes - Susan

Over the complete course, 3 weeks I will use all of the learning style techniques. The students who prefer learning through written or auditory do well with the required prerequisite web courses where they have the option of closed caption or auditory. The kinesthetic, the hands on learner prefers the time in lab where they get to problem solve using their minds and hands. Virtually every day there is some lecture with powerpoint presentation and the use of the white board, drawing and such, which appeals to the visual and auditory learners. I really like the way our courses are set up because it appeals to all learning styles.

As long as you try to mix up your delivery regularly you will be doing a great job. Best wishes- Susan

Hi Salvatore - Thank you for your posting to the forum! From what you describe, you do a great job teaching to the learning styles - keep up the good work!
Best - Susan

I don’t think that I’ve ever been able to teach to all the teaching styles in one class but through each chapter, or unit I try to make sure that I teach to all styles. Most chapters I’ll start with a brief reading assignment from the text with a Q & A or what I call nice to know, need to know where each reading group has to come up with one idem from the text that is fun trivia type of information and one idem that is a must know piece of information. That leads to some discussion of what they just read and then we will have some lecture time that I like to break up with work sheets that have them diagnosing problems using what ever tool or process we have been talking about’ and then I’ll demonstrate what we will be doing in lab and then we go do it.

Hi James - welcome to ED 103! Do you find that most of your students seem to prefer one style? Susan

I use all styles of learning every lesson, that way I am sure I reach all students. I start with Power Point, then the component ,which I pass around and explain its function and inspection and repair, then durning lab they work with component which ensures me they have learned all about the component.

Hi Robin - You are using diverse techiques to address the learning styles of your students - well done!

In my class we use a PowerPoint presentation. During the presentation we pass around training aids so let the student see and feel the part that they will be diagnosing in the lab. We then set a problem dealing with the subject and the students must use lab books, web and the knowledge we just went over to determine the problem, the reason and the fix needed.

Hi Jeff - that's the description of an active classroom reaching all the learning styles- well done!
