In order for me (as an instructor), to do my job well, it's important to see positive results from my students. Good grades on exams, means that I'm doing my job, and doing it well. As a culinary instructor, I am able to deliver information in a variety of ways. Part of my lesson requires a demonstration, where I give instruction of what my demonstration verbally, in addition to this I outline processes on the white board. Each lesson may also be supplemented and supported with text book reading. Through this method, students who have many different learning styles are able to achieve success in the classroom.

in our school during orientationwe would do a brief survey to determine learning styles and it was listed at the top of each students grade card. for some reason it is no longer done ! too bad, i thought it was useful, a quick glance and you were on your way with a pretty good idea of how to start with that student !
On my grade card(s), there are the results of each students learning style. When I realize that there is an issue with a student comprehending material in the classroom or in the shop, I refer to the learning style and adjust my approach in presenting the material relative to what is most effective to them.
Hi Jennifer, Thanks for your post to the forum. Great example - we need to tailor our instruction to the learning styles of our students.

It allows each student an opprotunity to learn.
If you know exactly how your students learn, you will be able to incorporate different types of teaching styles in order for them to easily comprehend the information.
Knowing the different types of styles can make you a more effective instructor by being able to convey the information in different ways to your class. For example if your class is more of a hands on group, it would be a waste of time to lecture every class period for the entire term.
Hi Colette, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is indeed the way to approach it - using a variety of delivery techniques to reach the diverse learning styles.
