Hi Kimberly- Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using a nice mix of deleivery options for your mixed group of students! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

In my current class I have been using Powerpoint presentations, handouts, observation, and videos. I try to usa a mixture of styles for each class because I have a wide raqnge of students and learning styles.

You can use different formats, colors, boards, etc., because the main idea is captive the attention thru view. You can catch the attention and improve the result in the learning process

Using powerpoint, graphs, and flow charts have always been helpful. The students can benefit from short instructional videos as well.

powerpoint presentations with abundant pictures would be one way, illustrations, color pictures etc.

I teach a Special Effects Make up Class were we do sculpting and mold making. I have available to all of my students during demonstarions and for reference what I like to call my "Cooking Show" pieces. These consist of step by step physical examples of what we are working on at the time and what our end goal will look like. For example: I have physicxal examples of the multiple stages of sculpting, so that the students can actualy see and feel what I am describing and showning them. I also have examples of each step of a mold making process. These are actual molds that they can touch and see upclose, as well as photos.

Hi George - "Computer Tutor" sounds exciting! I will have to check it out - thanks for sharing. Susan

Here at Mccann's we have overhead projectors that connect to the instructor's computer , it shows everyone my computer screen and a really neat program called computer tutor that allows me to show a student what they need to do while they are sitting at their computers.

I have worked in Dentistry for about 10 years; when we educate patients about their oral health situation we use intra-oral photographs and xrays to show patients what is going on in their mouth. They may not be able to "feel" a cavity but when we show them pictures of a decayed hole in a tooth they understand what is going on.

In a classroom setting I think I would encourage the visual learning students to make study cards, use flash cards, and encourage the use of webbing (which I used all the time when I was a student) to help learn information. Associating pictures with new information could be helpful as well as providing outlines of major points for the students so they can use it as a guide. Also the use of videos.

Hi Natassia- Thanks for your post to the forum and for sharing some great ideas for teaching visual learners! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Katrina- I'm glad that you found some good ideas in this module. Best wishes as you move forward in your career! Susan

Some instructional strategies to use when working with visual learners are any methods of teaching that allows visual learners to create a visual image of what they are learning. For example, provide students with a general outline of the material to be covered, present inforamtion on the overhead, hand out class notes opposed to having students copy notes. Ohter methods include using flipboards, photos, daigrams, laminated pictures and so on. to present information. Having students use flashcards is a great instrucional strategy when working with visual learners. Computer programs are great as well.

I would first letthem knowtheycan set closer to the board. I would all so prepare larger print information for them.

I am a new instructor and am going to be teaches beginning algebra (one of my intro classes). I am looking for any advice to make the class fun and easy for multiple learning styles of students. Thank-you for this great idea!!

HI Saroj - Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using excellent teaching strategies for your visual learners! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

The Visual Learners can understand better if they see Pictures , Educational Videos, Power Point etc. I also draw Diagrams and give Diagrams for coloring different parts and that helps a lot in makig them understand

I am a culinary school instructor; so, my answers are always tinted with that experience.

I always try to demonstrate new techniques for students. Watching me do it forst always helps visual learners.

We are dominated by kinesthetic learners though. People who like doing things with their hands are attracted to this profession.

Hi Gayle - Thanks for your post to the forum and for sharing some great teaching strategies for visual learners! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

use a powerrpoint/visual presentation to help students learn the material

When presenting the power point/lecture, the students have a copy of the power point that that have to fill in some of the words that I had taken out. I also put in mini videos that show the process of the topic the power point is on. For example, if the lecture that day is on the cardiovascular system, I show a mini video that shows where the heart is located, where the chambers are located and how the blood flows through the heart. I also draw it on the board several times prior to testing. I have also found songs that have aided in the memorization process.
