Music in the class room
I prefer play a soft smooth instrumental at a low volume during lab. It tends to maintain a stress free environment.
I teach a computer class at MMI and without music my students would be very unhappy and uptight. Tends to smooth out the day. I may not always play the music they enjoy but it keeps them working and focused no matter what is being played.

I have that music , by rule is not an acceptable instrument use in most work environments. However more and more stuies and research that the appropriate music generates psychomotor benefits enducing learning retention.
Very nicely put RoQuanda!
Music has a very postive effect on students who are arriving after a long, hectic day as well as on those who you mentioned. What type of music do you play?
Keep up the good work!

I worked at several career colleges and I found that soft mellow music is always positive in a classroom setting. Just like other professors have mention, music relaxes the student. Soft music playing in the classroom when student arrives helps them relax right before lecture starts. Especially if a student had a hard morning or traffic was crazy, it helps the students clear their mind. Music in lab helps speed up the students productions and keep them on track and focus.
I have never used music in the classroom, but it makes sense to me. I showed a video in class last week that had music in it similar to that found in Harry Potter movies. I left the classroom feeling very relaxed and happy. Something to try in the future!
I haven't used music in the classroom for a while. This unit really reminded me about the importance and benefits of music!!
music in the classroom might be ok for some environments, but for a career college with various ages, and learning styles, i don't find it to be the best choice of things to do. It can be distracting as well as soothing. It isn't something that should be considered for all classes.
I learned a great thing from one of my fellow teachers,( when we got to listen to music), the mellower the music the calmer the students would be. Now we only get to listen to music when we do a deep clean in the kitchen. I will say I miss the misic, but the students miss it more that I do. Prodution is hard to get and stay motivated with out some back round noise.
Until now, I have never given much thought to music in the classroom....I will now!

I love oldies but my students are on the younger side and theymay not recognize the tunes but I will try to locate some copy-right free music and introduce this to my nursing class especially when teaching the "senses". Looking forward to it.
As a former high school music educator, turned chef instructor I am totally convinced of the importance of music on learning. Unfortunately, our company does not allow us to play any type of audio during classtime. What are some ways that I (a low person on the totem pole) provide our leadership with the information of the benefits of changing this policy?
Soft classical or jazz are perfect musical undertones for working math classes. The students seem to remain focused without redirection. Of course before any music is played the students permission is requested. If one student disagrees with don't have music.
Hi Neville!
I like to start a class - particularly evening classes - with like classical or soft jazz for a moment of relaxation and regrouping. I have seen it change the whole cynamics of a class.
Good job!

This type of music is stimulating and the students enjoy it while working on individual or group exercises. It adds to the blend of professional environment and study.
Classical music during a class is helpful.
Starting of with a higher tempo and slowing it down works well.
in a classroom enviroment, music can be good or it can cause an issue. Survey the class to see if they want music and then go from there.
Hi Paul! Good job! At what times during your class do you use the music? I use when students are first arriving for a calming effect but haven't had much luck at other times.
Thanks and keep up good work!

I agree, i like to use the oldies and the class as a whole love it and respond to it in a good way. It seems to loosen the mood of all type of people i encounter.
Music is a great way to relieve stress, tension and to put students at ease.
